Ranchero vs seachero?

Thanks!
The dials are so easily « swappable »?
I don't know but I'm guessing most cal 267/268 dials with the same diameter will probably fit a 2990 case. My concern regarding the one you posted is that I have not seen any legit 2990 with that dial before and it does not have the usual characteristics of the "Seachero" dials - the wider Omega logo for example. But all "seachero" don't have this style of logo so I'm not really sure whats correct and not.

I agree with Hejsam in that this dial looks very much like that from a Seamaster 14389 (I had a 14389 too that I recently sold). The 14389 has a case that is the same diameter as the 2990/2996 Ranchero case, so a 14389 dial would likely fit. As you know, there is no official "Seachero" model in the Omega catalog, but the wide or "fat" logo is a characteristic that most Seacheros seem to share. All of that being said, OP, if you like the aesthetic of the watch, if it's running properly, and the price is right, buy it if it appeals to you. If you want a "true" Seachero, I would continue to shop around.

Thanks for all the answers, I never would have figured it was a franken!
I do like its looks, 2990 case with a tropical gilt dial…But it’s priced at a level I would have expected more originality! The seller is asking about 1k€, which would be 1.2/1.3 with shipping and custom taxes :/
Thanks again! 😀

Hi all!
Still on the same matter, how would you guys feel about this seachero? (Apart for the crown)
Second hands is white here indeed 😉
I’m really interested in it and trying to make up my mind of what a fair offer would be 😀

I also saw a uv video showing radium-like glow (green glow that « charges » a little when exposed but stops right away when the uv stops), matching on hands and dial!
Thanks!

I love the Ranchero with the broad arrow, incredibly clean and aggressive look

I think it's possible that this watch has been relumed. Please compare the lume on the hour hand with the lume on the minute hand. Also, some of the triangular hour markers appear to be somewhat irregular in shape and the lume is brighter in tint than I would expect for a 65 year old watch.

Yes, correct. The name "Ranchero" translates literally as "ranch hand" or "farmer" which was offensive to many Spanish speaking cultures and resulted in poor sales of the Ranchero in those markets, so rather than ending the production run of the Ranchero immediately Omega put Seamaster dials into Ranchero cases to boost sales. OP, attached is a video from the Omega Enthusiast that covers the two 2990 models. You'll note that subtitle text which states that fewer broad arrow hand versions were made and that as a result they command higher prices than the versions with dauphine hands. That would be true for both the Ranchero and the Seachero models, I believe.

There's also a good history of the Ranchero beginning at 9:10 from this video by The Urban Gentry:

Thank you for sharing these. In my personal and highly subjective opinion, The 2993 and Ranchero (2990-1?) broad arrow/black dial designs are essentially peak non-Speedmaster Omega in terms of desirability. Absolutely... beautiful.

They are simple in design, beautiful to look at, and very comfortable to wear. Definitely some of Omega’s best work.

HOLY WOWZERS.

Do you have some other pictures of the central watch there? All three of those are fantastic.

Yes, exact same reasons I like them. Simple and beautiful. Very much a touch of "wabi" to these watches.

Oops, sorry! 😀

No apologies necessary, it's one of the most attractive watches I've seen, I'll look at it again!

The 3 are great but the true grail among them is the railmaster 😀

the 2996 is a Pakistan Air Force seamaster

The middle one is a white ranchero I got recently but it seems like I don’t have any pictures of it with me for now, I’ll post some as soon as I have it in hand again 🙁

Center Seconds 2996 BA Ranchero.
Harder to source than any 2914 Railmaster.

i don’t know how to post a video here but the ones I’ve seen are pretty consistent with radium. Seems to react as my 2914 whose lume is undoubtedly original (and very close in colour) 😀
