Ranchero thoughts?

I've started hunting for a ranchero and love the simplicity - but am finding it very hard to find a nice clean example that looks legit... Looking for some help on this one from an unnamed dealer in a far away land... looks lovely but I am suspicious, so I probably wont buy it but trying to learn about the reference and educate myself! Any general guidance when looking at rancheros also appreciated!

  • Is this a legit configuration? Have not seen the arrow hands on a dial without the seconds sub-dial before?
  • Has the lume / dial been re-done? To me the dial seems legit but the lume looks suspiciously orange and consistent? Most tend to have less vibrant lume?
  • Crown looks like a service replacement vs the domed ones you usually see?
  • Case and bracelet look legit to me

Thanks in advance OF gang! Ash

Full redial for sure. “T Swiss Made T” wasn’t used until around 1963. Movement dates watch to 1959 which is correct for this version of Ranchero. Case is probably correct also, but has been heavily polished.

I don’t know about hands, but there are plenty of aftermarket replacements out there.

I would pass on this one unless you need movement or case for another project.

Thanks, what I suspected. What should it say for a late 50's ranchero at bottom of dial? What are the tells? As simple as lume too orange and blobby? And text being white / thick?

Museum pricing for a pawn shop watch. Dial is probably purchased (not Omega).

Just “Swiss Made”. “T” is for tritium, which was not used on Rancheros.

You have most of the other tells.

In comparison, this looks original given grain of the dial and lume and think text. + swiss made? (hope I am right otherwise I give up!!)

Also whats the deal with seamaster written on the dial in ranchero cases? Have seen several referred to as seacheros? Any resources that explain this?

Thanks!

Always have a watchmaker service a Ranchero with radium lume. That’s not stuff that you want to service yourself.

What do you guys think of this? Looking for a clean example is tough - want to believe its original but then with rancheros feels too good to be true to find something as pristine as this?!

That is obviously not a Ranchero. You should read those Seachero threads.

Shocking that a professional dealer would try to pass this off as original.

Name and shame:
https://www.chrono24.com/dealer/eguchistore_official/index.htm
The price is $8366!

And what does this in the description mean?

"This is a consignment item and will be delivered after maintenance after sale (free of charge installation: about 2 months). Although our warranty is included, this item is a collector's item, and in the event of any defects due to broken parts, etc., we ask that the purchaser consult with the manufacturer, etc., themselves."

I don’t recall ever seeing a 266 caliber in a 2990 Ranchero. Are you sure that it isn’t a 267 or 268? As for getting original hands, it will be very hard to find and they will also be expensive. The problem is that the Ranchero was only made for two years. The original hands used radium lume and Omega stopped using radium in 1961.
