.. from differing sources, including ADs, that the current Railmaster is to be discontinued shortly?

they should go back to the 2500 aesthetics, but they definitely need a model to "compete" with the explorer. so bring the 2504 back with new movements and whatever else they want.

Maybe the new one will have a dial that doesn’t look like it was designed by a committee…

I don't mind the dial. The only thing preventing me from getting an Aqua Terra is that stupid arrow minute hand.

Not a fan of the plank-looking dials, either, but you can get older versions without.

Small seconds? 😜

On a serious note they should have already have released a Chrono or GMT version of the current generation. I would also like a day date.

Need to update the PO and bring it back to the classic 2500 size.

Honestly, I don't understand the point of both the Seamaster Professional and the Planet Ocean. Wasn't Planet Ocean originally a special edition Seamaster Professional?

It was a more utilitarian watch vs the Seamaster Pro being more dressy.

I don’t know if they really need a competitor for the Explorer, I see them so infrequently anyway compared to every other sports model and half the time I wonder if the owner bought it because that’s all their AD would sell them. The AT is such a strong and versatile model and the SM300 gives you the look and feel of the railmaster with the addition of a bezel which is just better.

I love the minute hand with the arrow characteristic. I wish the hour hand had the same such as on the Planet Ocean.

This would do for me

Less dial text, manual to thin down the case. Should fit nicely in a 38mm case. Oh, and at least 5mm micro-adjust on the clasp.

Aside from all the issues with the current dial design, IMO the Railmaster needs to be thinned down and given a display back. It makes no sense that an amagnetic caliber has to be hidden behind a solid caseback. There's also no reason that an 8800 movement watch needs to be 12mm tall. HQ could easily shave it down a millimeter.

It also wouldn't hurt to downsize the watch a tad. There's a lot of extra space between the movement and the inner diameter of the case.

Omega still feels somewhat reluctant to step out of the 'big watch' trend, but they should probably have realized that for a more modest, time-only watch like this, its prospective customers are not going to be the type who purchase a watch because of how large it is. The demographic interested in this model is going to prefer a product that gives off more of a low-key, elegant tool aura.

robot assembly easier for bigger watches
less need for skilled detailed human labor

It may be a model that just isnt meant to last (or at least sell large volume) in a modern market. Being a "Railmaster" was cool 50 years ago but a bit less so nowadays. A very simplistic viewpoint; Joe Biden is an Omega wearer, we all know that, those outside the US might not know the man loves trains! He will take a train over a plane any chance he gets.....and yet he wears a Seamaster not a Railmaster. If he isnt the target audience for this watch I dont know who is.

One members overly simplistic viewpoint, YMMV. I like the watch, I am not putting it down at all, but it may need a modern spin.

It's a nice watch, very comfortable to wear, can be had at sensible money if you shop around, but each and every variant of that dial if truly awful.

I've often wondered if the 60th anniversary dial would fit in this case/on this movement... because that would look fantastic.
