Questions about Omega 1970s " Admiralty "

Came across a Admiralty watch for sale (ref 166.054) but has a 550 movement and no date function. Based on omega's website, the 166.054 has a caliber 565 and a date function. Could this watch be some kind of franken-watch? Or did Omega produce a 1660054 with a 550 caliber for the US Markets?

Anyone know?

The third digit in the reference is a "6" which, unless I'm mistaken, means that it should include a date. The no-date equivalent is a "5." So if your watch has no date, it could be a 165.054 but not a 166.054.

Have you seen the markings inside the case back or you just going by what the seller is saying?

i uploaded a photo of the case back on the below comment. It states that it is a 166.054, but the dial has no date function.

Either the case back was swapped or the movement hard to know which. Personally it wouldn’t bother me that much if the price was right. How does the rest of the watch look?

Looks fine, I am just not clear on what I would be buying.

Since Omega is no longer doing archive extracts there really is no way of knowing where the movement came from/belongs. As I said earlier either the movement came from a different watch or the case back did.

Do you have photos of the rest of the watch?

OP, can you find any other examples online that match this one?

I'm not an expert on this model, but I see some things that look off. Combine that with the possibly incorrect movement or case back, and I'd be very careful about this decision.

Yeah. Definitely suspect. I see that someone (OP?) "won" the bid for this on eBay yesterday for $1457. What's interesting is that the same watch shows up in an eBay search for sold admiralty watches as sold for $955 on 26 November.

However, if you click on that item, eBay shows an error page.

(I believe it is the exact same watch since the listing title, including the incorrect reference, is identical to the one sold yesterday.)

OP, if you did purchase that watch yesterday, I'll look into a refund.
