My 90 year old great uncle recently gave me his manual wind, Omega Sea Master cosmic. It was just sitting in his closet, broken, and without a band.

I took it into a repair shop, and it will be fixed in a few weeks (waiting for parts from Switzerland)

I don't have any photos of the watch, but do have some questions about it.

The back has "136017sp" on it (Looks very similar to the watch listed herePurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network)

I asked the repair man for the serial number on the inside, he gave me the value 27832210 (Which I cannot find any information about using the Omega database) - Maybe I wrote it down wrong.

I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with:

    1) What year was the watch made in?
    2) What size band will it need?
2a) Are there any recommendations on the band to get? I am ok spending 50-75 on a good band and want something metal.
2b) Why are "steel rice" bands so expensive?
    3) Any guess to the value of the watch (repaired). My best research puts it at $400, although I'd never sell because it belonged to my great uncle, one of my heroes.

The most expensive watch I owned before this was a 10 year old Fossil, but this one is getting me interested into more "finer" watches. I am anxiously waiting for this one to be fixed.

    Very interesting forum.

    Thanks all.

I have answers about your watch. Wrong answers are free. Correct answers cost a photo or two.

I also wrote down that the repairman told me it is a model 613

So its been almost 2 months of waiting for the watch to get fixed & cleaned up, and I am anxiously awaiting its return. I will post pics when I get it back from the shop.

The biggest question I have right now is what kind of band can I/should I get with it. I would like to get a metal band, and plan on keeping the watch forever, so I have no problems spending $100-$200 on a band

    A) Can I have a metal band placed on this watch
    B) What bands out there do people recommend?

Thanks all, and I cannot wait to get the watch back.

Thanks for the message Varasc. Our watches are pretty close. Hard to read the back of yours from the images, but mine is a 1968 model, and is gold. My biggest question is if the shade of the gold is likely to be off between the watch and a new band (I figure this is where photos will be of the most help)

I've been looking at some bands like this:

    Hello Dan,

I apologise, I am not an expert of your own kind of watch, therefore I am not able to suggest you the proper bracelet. I bought a black leather Omega one, and it's pretty good on my Cosmic; moreover, the original one was of leather, too.

Thank you so much for the assistance. Would any other types of metal bracelets work with this watch? It seems like Ebay has some pretty slim pickings.

I am just not a fan of leather straps.

They may, but thats a trial-and error task. Unless someone here tells you what model they have installed in their cosmic :)

I got my watch back from the repair shop. It had a new crystal added and a broken part of the movement replaced.

Here are some photos of the watch. The biggest question I have now is what to do about the band? I'd like a metal band, but am still kind of clueless over what to do. (There has been some good advised provided already which I appreciate)

    Thanks all.

Personally I would go with a leather strap, you could try to find a gold bracelet and if this were me I would have to go to a bricks and mortar shop rather than buy online. Over 40 years the gold on the head will have faded and tarnished, and a brand new shiney gold bracelet will not match. If you buy in a store you can try to get a better colour match but this may not be easy.
