After owning many of rolexes and finally selling them after getting into omega i am curious about the model I currently own.

Was the 2264.50/2254 supposed to be a re release of this ?

    Well is a 5513 a reissue of a 6204? Or a 114060 of a 14060? Evolution not revolution.

Well I mean it's not like the continued with the look of the bond. They did a sort of a throw back with this watch .

    Definite aspects of the original.

Personally the 42mm Planet Ocean 2500 has more heritage nods to that one.

That's Omega and exactly the reason why Rolex is still high end and Omega is not. Poor design imho

    Exactly the reason?
So nothing to do with the targeted advertising by Rolex, the brand positioning on everything imaginable, sponsorship of "elite" events, the selected drip feed of various models, having the "right" brand ambassadors etc etc etc.

I agree that they are high end as seen in the market place, to those who believe the hype.

    In a technical sense?

Hardly any more high end than dozens of other brands.

Was obsessed with Rolex until the watch makers disected them and came to the conclusion that a stainless steel sub costs about 1000 usd to make or worth of materials

Omega, Rolex - all are cheap to produce if you just look at raw materials. But as anyone who's run a manufacturing business will tell you - it's a lot more than the raw materials and assembly that goes into this stuff. An iPhone is also super cheap to make, doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one. Good design is priceless and I also appreciate and support tasteful marketing. If Rolex (or Omega) is making profit I don't fault them!

My watchmaker appreciates the build quality of a Rolex, but in the same breathe will praise some of the $500 micro-brands he has seen come across his bench or vintage Bulova’s and Benrus’s (his daily wear is a Benrus Sky Chief). He’s a nuts & bolts guy so brand doesn’t matter to him- all about build. I put Omega and Rolex on the same plane for build quality.Omega has just been more daring in styling over the years- some wonderful, some fail.
