Hello again.
My watchmaker tries to lower an aftermarket crystal from the bottom side and he adjusts the crystal curvature too.
the result is not so bad.

Hello!
What do you think about modifying plexy as above?

Thank you for your opinion

I'm not sure why you would modify a generic crystal as they are available in different heights. Usually, the low dome crystals won't work well with a central sweep seconds hand as there isn't enough room but, it depends. Here's a small extract from the Sternkreuz catalogue. Usually, an ATC would suit and you select the diameter you want - cost is about US$5. It's surprising that you can't just select the one you want but, perhaps you have specific requirements nothing to do with the watch. I think you have rejected the Omega one as being too high? Not sure but that is usually the safest bet as some have stepped tension rings.

If he is changing the side elevation curvature profile by sanding down the crystal, then it will get thinner in that area. I certainly wouldn't recommend that.

Good luck, Chris

Thank you for your reply.
I can't find the right crystal height because I do not like crystal, included original ones, that are like a bowl of goldfish and they distors the
edges.

You shouldn't be worry about that crystal. It is a beautiful watch, just wear it, either is an original crystal or not

OK, I'm still not sure why you don't buy a crystal with the profile you want but, it's up to you.

I still do not recommend re-profiling the crystal by sanding the top to reduce this shape but, it's up to you. If the crystal cracks, you will know why. You did ask "What do you think about modifying plexy as above?" and I have replied that, as a watchmaker, I wouldn't recommend it. It sounds as if you have also reduced the height by sanding away at the lower so, it will be interesting to see how the tension ring fits.

Cheers, Chris

Because I can't find the right one, either original or aftermarket.
