Question about authenticity of a 1930's Art Deco

Hello (and sorry for my bad English),

This is my first journey in watch universe, especially with Omega.

I'm currently interested in small, rectangle watch, and I found this one on chrono24 : https://www.chrono24.com/omega/omeg...5332438.htm?searchHash=8500cde7_whKC0d&pos=20

I have a few questions :

  • Serials on the case and caliber are different : case seems to be from ~1940, and caliber from ~1938, according to a few websites about Omega serials. Is that difference common in vintage watch ?
  • Dial seems to be in exceptional shape for a 85 years old one. Think this is a redial ? (i looked into the pined post before writing mine 馃榾 ).
  • Any concern about anything else ?

If I am lucky and everything seems to be ok, does the price being ok ?

Thank you a lot, and hope I could join the Happy Omega Owners Club soon.

That's not unusual. Cases and movements were manufactured separately and assembled together at a later date. Also, the serial number databases are best considered approximate anyway.

Gorgeous watch, btw.

Not quite. The case and movement serial numbers don't correspond to the same ranges when it comes to dating. The numbers shouldn't match in fact, it's not just the lag in time between case and movement, they have different meanings altogether. They stopped using case serials on steel stuff around the end of WW2 and on precious metal stuff at the end of the 1950s I think.

Dial looks refinished, hands are mismatched and the "serviced" movement with the regulator pushed all the way to one side is a big no. Price, silly.

hands are mismatched
I think the hands are OK, AJTT shows a few examples with blued steel "Magister" hour hand and baton minute hand.
Agree on the "serviced" movement.

But the "O M E G A" ???? 馃え

Well, thank you for all those messages.

What I'll remember :
  • Serials differences on case and movement are common and case on the last 70 years don't have serial anymore.
  • Avoid this movement because of the regulator pushed to the limit.
  • Avoid this dial because of some irregularity (seems too shiny for its age, OMEGA font is weird).
  • Price is silly => any range of price for a tank of these years ?

Summary : Should avoid this purchase
