Hi all,
I got this 168.017 off eBay recently. 馃摉

I have seen a few examples which have had the purple goo, and it's usually from the remnants of the caseback sticker (left behind from a lazy owner?).
I really doubt this one retained the original caseback sticker, in fact, I think the case and bracelet have probably seen a full refinish.

I will post better photos once I get it in, but what are your guys thoughts?

Thank you 馃榾

I believe that purple goo is affectionately called snot, and my 2 cents worth would wager you鈥檝e got got a watch in top condition with original case finishing headed your way.

The case seems to have nice original radial bezel brushing and circular case brushing and Caseback looks clean
The observatory medallion looks sharp under the snot. Dial looks very good
And a nice original bracelet
I think you will be very happy
In vintage Grand Seiko the snot is green and collectors go crazy it increases value as marker of good case condition.

Alright it's in my hands a little early.
Look like you guys @sonicosa @SOG53 are probably right!

Unpolished or not, this might be the nicest case I've handled (and I am really confused as to why this auction only had 11 watchers).

I really need to clean the case back and the original springbars are also impossible for me to take off...
I should probably put it back in its bag before I destroy it 馃榾

Sorry about the terrible photos-- more photos to come.

Grand Seiko collectors will tend to not remove this to preserve appeal and value. I have not seen this yet on Omega- what do people think do you leave it on or not?

I wouldn't say I like how it looks with it, but as it is on the case back I could leave it. If the watch gets a lot of wear time, I would probably remove it.

I think if it was more intact or a rare reference, I would try to preserve it.
It's cool to see but it's pretty gross.
Time setting is stiff so I'll be getting it serviced soon.

I honestly wasn't the biggest fan of C-shape connies, but this one is winning me over.
A bit of a tease since I can't wear it yet. 馃憥

Whatever you call the purple stuff, you buy it in any Machining supply shop. Also in blue or red ...

You got a nice watch. Enjoy it. I find that this watch wears so comfortably and has won me over. Hope you find same.
