·Omega SM1000m professional diving watch. These are very rare and are one of the scarcest models that Omega produced. This one is a prototype so the 1% of 1%! It’s a model that was used by Jaques Cousteau and his team, and is Omega's pinnacle of diving watch design. If Omega were to have an equivalent to the Comex Subs then this watch is it. Very under appreciated and only destined to gain attention.
The Case
The case has a strong and correct factory finish, and is engraved with a 4 digit prototype number on the edge (photo retouched to obscure 1 digit for privacy).
The Dial
The dial now looks fabulous, but was poorly relumed when I received it. James Hyman expertly relumed the dial to match the hands and bezel. The old lume was hard to remove from the dial and did cause some paint loss around some of the indices, most noticeable at 9 o'clock. On the wrist it is not really visible but can be seen under a loupe or macro pictures.
The Movement
The movement has been fully serviced by Swiss Time Services and has about 18 months left on the warranty card.
The Bracelet
The sharks mesh bracelet is is great condition and has a prototype code on the clasp only found on these prototype watches. Normally these are stamped 1247/237, this one is engraved 1247/224.
The Paperwork
The Omega Extract of Archives confirms this watch as a Prototype, delivered to various Diving organisations for testing. It also has a service card from Swiss Time Services.
