Blimey, if I lived to 99 and never had to worry about where the next meal was coming from or if my children were ever going to get on the property ladder, I would be celebrating not saddened. His only worry was weather he could keep his mouth shut whilst in the presence of an ethnic minority.... And yes, I'm British but possibly not proud

Certainly cool.must have got it from his mother.she is buried in Jerusalem on the mount of olives for her roll in protecting ethnic minority Jews during the war.some woman and not a crown in sight!
I think if you review my posts you will see I do not get involved in these sorts of posts and I am not an ardent royalist or a British flag waver but I do feel your comments lack perspective
I met the man and was involved in some of the things he was an ardent instigator of particularly the Duke of Edinburgh project which he established with his old headmaster and improves the lives of 500,000 young people every year.
He was born in the 1920s and whilst privileged re connections was without parents all his childhood. He served in the navy during WW11 with distinction and then became the longest serving consort.
He was a remarkable man in so many disciplines and yes he said stuff that hit the headlines but to be frank so did my grandfather who was born in this era and knew do different but he still looked after his community no matter creed or race and to be judged on a lifetimes work by sound bites lacks judgement and knowledge
While he wasn't perfect, he was a product of his times.
A true statement about every human being in history and present, but sadly people feel the need to categorize humans as 100% noble heros, or 100% evil villains.
Elizabeth might miss him extra as he was both her husband and third cousin.
