Anybody else remember when collecting brochures and catalogues was a fun and inexpensive way of getting a quick `fix` in between watches?

What do we think guys, shill at work? I can hardly believe people would pay so much money for these things, I have quite a few brochures, pamphlets etc but have never paid more than 30 or 35 euros for that kind of stuff.

Think I would have spent that kind of money on Jouney Through Time rather than a phamplet. That is just stupid money.

B'stard - you just made me spit red wine at my computer.

I only paid $50 for an original service manual for the 3019 el Primero - if it ever makes its way from Heathrow to SE London (13 days and counting)

BTW, I'm often frustrated when pictures are missing from old auctions. Does it make sense to include pics here when linking? Fair use?

Me too πŸ˜‰
Today's results:

^^^ US$405.00

^^^ US$510.00

^^^ US$255.00

^^^ US$73.00 - Bargain buying 😁

^^^ US$589.79

^^^ US$204.50 - front cover (above), inside (below)

As I always do when posting about old brochures I highly recommend Steve Waddington's site:
old-omegas.com
Plenty of great scans shared by many collectors.

There are still bargains to be found. I'll post up a few recent buys, and some cheapskate near misses πŸ™„ at the weekend when I've got more time.

The 2998 brochure above is one I've been after for a long time. They have popped up fairly regularly over the past five years and I think have always gone over US$200.
A similar one has been shown multiple times in another discussion thread on OF this week so may have helped push the price up on this example. Which was a bit rough and in French!!! 😲

Je suis kidding, mes amis. πŸ‘

I have a friend who has a huge collection of plant machinery brochures and he decided to part with the duplicates in his collection. I laughed when he said he was going to part with Β£30,000 worth he had collected over the years. Some of these brochures are worth fortunes, this is a whole sub culture of collecting that a lot of people don't know about.

Must be specific to certain items.
I've had to buy a whole stack of Leica brochures just to get two Hasselblad ones that I actually wanted.
When I was looking to offload them prices seemed very low.

I've always found them interesting, good for backgrounds in photos, and have kept the fun in collecting when funds are low.
Have to agree with the point already made above that when you're getting beyond the cost of AJTT & MWO then you really have to do a sanity/reality check.

I posted this in the MWO thread but I thought it might be of some interest in this context. I've compared mine with the one on the old-omegas site and they appear to be identical with the exception of the two Speedmaster photos.

If the collectors of these haven't seen one like it, I'll feel safe listing it as EXTREMELY RARE.

I collect the old catalogues and have most of them from the 70's, would never pay silly money but I can understand why collectors of early speedsters will pay a premium for the early brochures and instructions
