Can anyone give me an idea of price range I should be considering in search for a good Speedmaster 2998-61 please. I'm based in the U.K.

I would add that you can’t just go out and buy a -61 Speedmaster at those prices. It will take patience - likely months and a good eye.

If you want one relatively quickly you’ll either have to compromise on price or condition.

Yes, understood. This is a project not an impulse. There seems, however, a real variation even amongst dealers. So was hoping to get a heads-up from people who are closer to the trade / have more experience / have recently bought one.

You are looking for a very special and expensive Speedy, so I do hope that you know what to look for??

Here is one that I found doing a simple search:
https://www.vintagespeedmaster.com/products/1961-omega-speedmaster-pre-professional-ck2998-61

I have not studied the watch, so no idea regarding the correctness or quality.

And this one did not get sold...

True. And it took me another few years of searching to find a nice one. Admittedly some nice options escaped me due to bad time or stingy bidding. 😅 Ultimately, I landed a gorgeous 2998-6 earlier this year, at a reasonable price and in the condition I wanted. Very good, yet not so good I wouldn't dare wearing it. If you enjoy the hunt, this is a very nice reference to aspire to own. However, it will take legwork and luck, or a big wallet, possibly both.

All I can say is that I got mine at a significantly lower price than those currently available on the market. I don't want to cast any shade on the one linked above by @hansaboy though. It looks nice at first glance and factoring in the bracelet, it is not outrageously priced for a dealer piece.

Very nice - Is the lollipop hand I've seen on some a random addition or specific to a date run?

Thanks! It’s actually better now. The minute counter hand needed alignment. Here it is.

And with regards to the Lollipop; those are rare, but factory original. AFAIK, most common on the earlier 2998's, up to around 2998-3 (maybe -4). The -6 and following certainly did not come with Lollipops, but with the hand as my example above has.

The prices in that list refer to deals between collectors, not from dealers. You should add 50-100% if buying from a dealer.

Is the mark-up really that high ? I woud have thought it was more around 30-50% than 100%.
