Do I need to feel sorry for being the underbidder? 2998-61

Hi all,

Earlier this week, I found myself being the underbidder at a small UK auction house offering the 2998-61 as pictured below. I've been annoyed for a good few hours after and am curious to get your opinions; how good a buy is this Speedy?

To my eyes: nicely aged dial and suspiciously homogeneous lume colour between hands and dial, although both do not look too suspicious in their own right. Dial is attractive and without any major blemishes. Rather good case, clean movement with correct serial and a very good DON bezel. This all complemented with what appears to be a reasonably good and period correct flat link including the right no. 6 end links. In short; a very lovely package to my eyes. Oh, and the crown is an original flat foot too. It's really just the lume colour that could be considered a question mark, but taking all that into account a mere 11k GBP before 30% premium still feels like a very, very good deal to the (fortunate?) winner.

Annoyed as I am for missing out on this one, I'd still like to turn this into something positive. A learning experience is the best I can make of it, so I am very, very curious about your opinions on this watch. Also, I hope it has stayed in the OF family. In that case; congrats to the winner!

This looks like a very nice and honest example.
The hour hand lume has a crack so i dont think it has been prepaired (relumed) for the auction.
Too bad it didnt work out. I am also interested to hear what more experienced members have to say.

Ah, the one that got away. The great thing is: there’s always another down the road. The next victory will be even more satisfying.

This is the one from Tooveys I think?

Great, honest watch IMO which will clean up wonderfully. I was tempted to bid but I’m tapped out at the minute.

I missed one very similar to that one in 2017 for $7500. Now I feel even worse. 🙁

Are the pounds 11000 incl. All fees or what will be added?

11000 hammer price. Fees added on at around 30%

Not cheap then ...
14300 pounds is surely a lot of money, but if you consider the bracelet, correct endlinks and overall condition i think it was a great deal.

Looks like the consensus is that this has presented me with a great learning opportunity; when a watch like these turns up for sale, don't hold back (again)... 😁

However, had you bid, it would have cost one of you more.

Bridges looks a bit different in colour. Not big deal but I guess could be replaced.
