··@SpeedyBirthYearHi all,
Earlier this week, I found myself being the underbidder at a small UK auction house offering the 2998-61 as pictured below. I've been annoyed for a good few hours after and am curious to get your opinions; how good a buy is this Speedy?
To my eyes: nicely aged dial and suspiciously homogeneous lume colour between hands and dial, although both do not look too suspicious in their own right. Dial is attractive and without any major blemishes. Rather good case, clean movement with correct serial and a very good DON bezel. This all complemented with what appears to be a reasonably good and period correct flat link including the right no. 6 end links. In short; a very lovely package to my eyes. Oh, and the crown is an original flat foot too. It's really just the lume colour that could be considered a question mark, but taking all that into account a mere 11k GBP before 30% premium still feels like a very, very good deal to the (fortunate?) winner.
Annoyed as I am for missing out on this one, I'd still like to turn this into something positive. A learning experience is the best I can make of it, so I am very, very curious about your opinions on this watch. Also, I hope it has stayed in the OF family. In that case; congrats to the winner!
