Great reporting! When I started collecting I used to look up to the auction houses - the realisation that some focus more on sales than expertise was a sad awakening...

PP does not come out looking good in this story either, having issued an extract from the archives that appears to have avoided stating facts about the watch that it must have known to be true.

Post farming aside I am actually surprised this thread hasn’t got more legs. It reminds me of the Omega extracts and Ultraman watches based on images supplied by owners showing the orange hand.

When prices go higher and higher the advantages of faking stuff get larger and larger. The extract frenzy is open for abuse, and many houses just don't want to know what is going on, especially if it pushes the value of their watches higher on the secondary market. It helps the sale of their new product.
