38mm Momentum not only wears great but on my 6.75” wrist I would say it’s the perfect sized watch. At $150 I’m not afraid to stick my arm down an engine with it! For a few bucks more they now offer a sapphire crystal which would have been nice.

Well, on the basis that the most physical/manual work I do is walking the dog....

When I hear the term “ beater “ in discussing a watch... I think of a watch that I won’t mind if it gets beat up, others think of their usual daily wear, their beater.

I had/have two beaters, the Casio Pathfinder I wore when working on the car, the house, the yard, etc. The Seiko I wore for travel abroad. The Casio has needed a new battery for quite some time and the Seiko 6105 diver... is no longer in the beater category due to its increased collectibility and value.

My once and current beaters....

In my opinion a Beater is a watch that you would wear when you know there will be a high risk of seriously scratching or damaging a watch. I don’t want to scratch my beater but if it happens, oh well.

Recently acquired 😉
I got that one too. I've had the SKX007 scuba diver, with the same movement, for years, but this one is much smaller, thinner and lighter. I love the nylon strap.

The perfect "beater" IMO. Cool, accurate and tough as nails!

My Luminox is over 10 years old, so maybe another 10 years before the tritium tubes' brightness really drops off. Nice 43mm, light case, but wears a little smaller since the blue dial is only about 29mm.

To me all my watches are beaters, they have a beat and I will wear them without out restriction or limitations. That’s what they are for and I guess that’s why my collection has no real gems in it.

After having a Rolex ripped off my wrist in Naples years ago whilst on holiday, this became my travel watch and progressed to general beater for when I am mucking around with hard edged stuff. It is titanium and seemingly bulletproof, with excellent tritium gas night illumination.

If it looks a bit grubby, that's because it is. It is the least expensive of all my watches, which means it is the most easily replaced.

I confess to being rather fond of it, rather like an old friend who does not present very well in public but will always be there for you.

Sometimes you really become fond of your beater watch. There is a certain comfort and freedom from worry that beaters can provide.

Citizen eco drive chonograph.
Got it dirt cheap as a factory refurb in like new condition.
Actually seldom wear it, but if I ever get back into the outdoors this will be the one I'll wear without worry of messing it up. No great loss if damaged or destroyed, while more than capable of doing everything an outdoors watch might be called on to do.

A true beater in every way. A super cheap Indian refurb that set me back the princely sum of $16 USD.
I wear this one for yard work and shopping.
Despite its humble origin its the most accurate watch I own, accuracy measured in seconds per month (+6 sec. per 30 days when I first got it) rather than per day.
The movement looks like it was made in a blacksmiths shop. Unusual looking regulator arm similar to one I found on my vintage Caravel with Citizen movement. Perhaps that is the secret to its uncanny accuracy.
The bridges vary in height, possibly cobbled together from two or more similar movements.

Once again, I object to "beater". I have a couple that could withstand a high-risk environment, but I am not afraid to wear anything I have for most daily activities. Most of what I have is not irreperable if it accidentally gets knocked about, either. When I got T-boned by a speeder at an uncontrolled intersection, the car was done for but I don't even remember what watch I was wearing, because it survived intact.
