When I hear the term “ beater “ in discussing a watch... I think of a watch that I won’t mind if it gets beat up, others think of their usual daily wear, their beater.
I had/have two beaters, the Casio Pathfinder I wore when working on the car, the house, the yard, etc. The Seiko I wore for travel abroad. The Casio has needed a new battery for quite some time and the Seiko 6105 diver... is no longer in the beater category due to its increased collectibility and value.
My once and current beaters....
After having a Rolex ripped off my wrist in Naples years ago whilst on holiday, this became my travel watch and progressed to general beater for when I am mucking around with hard edged stuff. It is titanium and seemingly bulletproof, with excellent tritium gas night illumination.
If it looks a bit grubby, that's because it is. It is the least expensive of all my watches, which means it is the most easily replaced.
I confess to being rather fond of it, rather like an old friend who does not present very well in public but will always be there for you.
