Bought new in '72 from a catalogue while serving overseas. Not really fond of large, heavy watches so it sat in a drawer for 30+ years.
Out of curiousity of what to do with it, I googled Omega and came across this forum.

The madness commenced.

Just got it back from a full service from Steve n2fhl, who did a great job!
Pardon the shadows, that's Dablitzer, totally nude, in the background.

First and currently only. But it won't be my last...
This is a very nice watch. Can I get more info on it? I would love to own one like this.

Thanks very much. Course you can. It's a cal. 354 bumper from around 1954, case reference 2635. I bought it from the bay earlier this year and paid £415 (about $630?) for it which I felt was a good deal. Here's a seller's pic of the inside.

Black dials and especially black waffle dials don't come up all that often; just have to keep looking regularly. If you find one you like, post it up here for scrutiny and no doubt the resident experts will be able to advise if it's a good 'un or not.

Thank you for the info. That is a stunning piece. I'm still in the market for my first Omega.

First post, first Omega....a Automatic Seamaster with original JB Made in USA BoR bracelet. 1955-1957 vintage, not a bumper. Will know more after a trip to my watchmaker, never seen the inside.

See if I got the description/terminology right.....

Snap on caseback, smooth with sloped edge, no seahorse, Breguet numerals at the compass points with arrow-points elsewhere, lume pips, dauphine hands with striped lume, marked crown, glass crystal.

I do not think it has been redialed, but you can tell me. It has the correct fonts on Seamaster as far as I can tell.

Times extremely accurately.

Very nice! Your watch has the dropped R, very nice. From your pictures your dial looks good!👍

Thank you both. I thought it looked all original. Fingers crossed for a Cal 501 movement.

Any significance to the dial saying "Swiss" instead of "Swiss Made"?

Totally normal for that period. Might have been a non-Swiss case, but that's uncommon for a stainless watch.

This is my first original Omega that I bought about 4 yrs ago . Before I did bought 3 ' junks' about 17 yrs ago n I sold them away back to where they belong. Then it took me five long yrs to get this 551 with no mistake again n worth the waiting. In my country, there's a lot of filth, copies n 'frankensteins' on the street n in the shop also, waiting to suck your wallet as I've been there. So I did my homework n its worth it, Now there's alot of Vietnam beautiful copies on the street, so if you r coming to Bangkok to buy Omega watches, pls be very cautious
