Ha, someone just commented I wrote 200 posts of nonsense in two months. I didn’t even realize it took 200 posts to get on the buy sell thing. Really I’m here to look at the cool pictures, learn a bit and hone my sarcasm. I don’t really like selling things like watches online. I will no doubt purchase here. I wanting to buy a bezel thingy for a dynamic watch I bought but I ended up getting it from a shop and I’m sure I payed way too much, over 100 bucks for just that damn bezel but at least I know it’s genuine. So when you have idiots like me pop up don’t be to concerned. I had no idea of my post count until someone else pointed it out to me when I was being sarcastic in a lume thread. TBH from what I see here i would be comfortable buying a watch from one of you.
Since it was brought up I need to ask, do you guys really think it’s not appropriate to make a simple comment like “that is a beautiful watch” after someone posts a pic. I find myself doing that often but I have no motivations other than to comment on the watch and congratulate the owner. I think I did it twice today already.
Not enough emphasis. A truly nice watch deserves verbiage

I agree, and sometimes when you’re new to a group, it’s intimidating to jump in and get involved in the conversation so it’s more comfortable to just make a flattering comment or ask a simple question. As one gets more comfortable, then they feel like they can open up-it’s no different then when someone starts a new job or joins in a new recreational/social activity.
I think it’s pretty obvious when someone is just bumping up their number count versus when someone is genuinely interested in the conversation- even if it gets sidelined and off topic.
I started gingerly here not that long ago and got spanked a few times for making comments that were off base, flippant or just plain wrong. What I appreciate about this group versus many others is that the folks here really didn’t hold that against me and were willing to educate me on what I didn’t know (but thought I did) and have even allowed me to share some of what I have learned in my years of being a watch lover...among other hobbies.
We all approach social interaction differently (wether in person or on the web), and it’s understanding that some people are talkers and other lurkers-and just becuase someone seems shy and sparse in their dialogue doesn’t mean they are nefarious.
And Walrus, it was clear to me on your first day that you were very excited to be here, and very eager to learn, but had an agenda to get into the hobby, and since have come to relax and become part of the conversation and take the advice of others here and apply that to your collecting. I have enjoyed being part of conversations with you so don’t listen to the blow-hard
This place is interesting and I nicely run. I’m on a couple forums, one of my big time passions is boxing and I’ve been on a particular boxing forum for years. Recently though the off topic section has become a big political argument and I became a bit tired of it. I’m still there just not as active. I’m a moderator on a magic trick forum but all I really do there is delete Russian posts trying to sell sneakers and other weird things. I ended up here as someone I talk to on Reddit watches suggested it. So basically it’s boxing forums, magic forums, investment forums, bitcoin forums and some medical discussion. I think that makes me well rounded or bizarre. The 200 posts to sell makes perfect sense. Actually it seems a bit low when we are talking about items that people shell out thousands and tens of thousands but as I look around I don’t see many complaints of people being scammed, which is very good to see.
Do you know any disappearing tricks?
Maybe, maybe not. As I said before, I don't think any number of posts will prevent scammers to attempt doing what they do best. I do not rely on number of posts to validate the trustworthiness of Sellers on any forum. On the other hand, we have different types of members around here - with different interests and a huge difference in knowledge when it comes to watches. You have those with lots of experience in vintage watches who can quickly tell what's the correct length of hands on a specific model, those with sharp eyes who can quickly distinguish a redial from from an original, those who could write a full dissertation on the entire Speedy lineage, those who don't care for the Speedy or dive watches, those with expertise in watchmaking and so on. Maybe many of these members with a low number of posts around here are legit, don't have the same level of knowledge to contribute in more meaningful ways and perhaps want to have access to the FS or WTB sections and indeed are working on the minimum post requirement set by the new rules. Maybe there are others that are not legit and are trying to scam their way in. So, again - maybe, maybe not. I will not put every new member here whose posts are considered meaningless in the same camp. 😀
