Good evening OF member ,

Firstly let me take you back to Wednesdays evening i put a post up in the WTB section looking for a bracelet for an omega f300 cone .
i quickly received an email from a new member how had only regestered that evening (for now i will keep his identity anonymous ) asking me to contact a friend of his in Texas he is selling a bracelet i subsequently was messaged his email address from the new OF member.

Now this is where is get interesting stay with me i email the seller asking for some details of the bracelet he quickly replied with a photos of a watch and the bracelet unfortunately the bracelet was the wrong one nothing unusual you may say about that the only thing the photos were from a watch i tried to buy from a gentleman in France only last week on eBay.

It get better when i replied saying the Bracelet was incorrect for my watch he offer me another one this time the phots were of a watch on chrono24 and that seller was from Israel .

if the MODS want to get in touch regarding the new OF member i will only be too happy to give them his /hers name .
I find this very disturbing as i alway found this site a site for gentlemen with integrity and honour.

If you want to help the rest of us, post the name of the OF member who contacted you. Otherwise, this thread is pointless and you should have just sent the mods a PM.

Yeah- nip this quickly. And thanks for sharing out that the classified’s are being stalked by predators- if it feels a little fishy, trust your instincts.

In my experience WTB ads are absolute magnets for scams - because they already know you want whatever it is. Be extra careful and ask for proof from respondents - not all will be scammers, but there's a higher risk.

I had a new member contact me (post count under 5 and joined days before) about a WTB a while ago, I had him jump through all the hoops (specific pics etc) and he met every one of them. Transaction went off without a hitch and he went on to become a regular contributor on the forum. So caution is always important, but not everyone is a scammer....except in this case- screw that guy.

This kind of scam happens on WUS all of the time.
Each time when I have posted there WTB - at the next day, a new member zero-post-wonder sends a PM and claims he apparently has the item I've been looking for...

Yeah, let mods know the deatails of this new OF member.

Typical. I get a slew of inquiries from members with zero or a few posts every time I put a WTB or FS ad. I immediately ask for verifiable references. That usually does the trick and they disappear. Also, never deal via email unless you absolutely know who you're dealing with. All communications should be done via private messaging.

Cheers,

Not uncommon but username would be beneficial to us if allowed.

It has happened every time I start a WTB. Usually the Mods are on it before I could say anything, but let 'em know just to be safe.

I got a very similar message from @smikky.

I asked for images and he ripped some from the Omega website. I've since asked for a timestamp and haven't heard a peep. He's been reported to the mods.
