Dear all I am considering using some polywatch on the crystal that I’m hoping is hesalite or similar to buff out some very small scratches. The watch is a 1960 Seamaster De Ville. Any advice much appreciated.

She's a beauty! A drop or two of PolyWatch on the plexi, cotton pad, polish, repeat. If you like, you'll find plenty of tutorial videos on youtube, but it's really easy as pie.

Thanks ever so much was hoping it would be ok. They are tiny but just detract from the overall condition of the watch.

If they're not deep, they should polish away nicely. And I can't spot any on your picture, so it really seems like an easy job here. 😀

Works great! I use a small amount with q tips and apply light pressure

Works fantastic on light scratches. For scratches that are a bit deeper, I suggest looking into Novus. It's also a plastic polish, but the strongest version can take care of deeper scratches faster

They are small and clearer using a loupe. Hopefully a bit of polywatch will do the trick

Thank you. There is a small crack at the 11 o’clock position near to the dial edge which I’m guessing won’t improve with polishing and I’m loathe to change crystal as it looks like the original with Omega etched symbol

Poly watch is great stuff on plexi glass.
The only time it has failed on me is when I have used it on a very old trench watches or old pocket watches, it kind of melted the plastic glass with a strong smell of Vicks vapor rub.

Anyone else had this?

It's not necessarily the original crystal, but it sounds like an authentic Omega crystal. Cracks can compromise water resistance, so keep that in mind.

I've had staining on the dial after an unnoticed crack in the crystal on my Heuer Carrera. (I am amazed it has survived over 50 years with me at all 😁 ) That linen dial is so nice i would value preserving that much more than replacing the crystal, even with a non-engraved one.

Poly watch or Sidol or Brasso, all work if applied gently and rubbed gently. The only time I failed was once that I used a Dremel to brush - it was a test on an old banger. It just melted the crystal as it was to fast. Since then , only by hand.

Is there a source of original undamaged crystals I could go to in consideration of replacing it?

I have 100s of original NOS plexi glass, I would need the reference to check if I have one in stock though.
Cheers, Michael

You wouldn't have one for a Heuer Carrera 7753 would you? So far this century I've had to get used to non-original profiles that are prone to stress cracking.
