Interesting! If my very poor math skills are correct, as of this post, the results are (approximately):
Japan Racing - 28 votes
Ultraman - 20 votes

The Japan Racing is one of the nicest modern Speedies, in my opinion.

The Ultraman is the one of the ugliest watches ever made, in my opinion.
Only worse is the new HODINKEE one.
Ouch.

Only worse is the new HODINKEE one.
Ouch.

the Hodinkee non-Mk 40, faux Mk 40 is awful in many ways, including how the 9 o'clock subdial's hand and dial (single hand, not the original Mk 40's two hands on that particular subdial) no longer serves the purpose it is supposed to serve. what is a moving subseconds hand doing in a subdial with half blue and half black? meaningless. it was obviously designed for the no longer existing second subdial hand which is gone from the faux Mk 40 reissue Hodinkee. Yet, they still tried to force the half blue and half black on that dial, rendering it meaningless, and to make it even worse, they made the second hand meaninglessly full length with two colors. scratching one's head!!

as for Ultraman or Japan Racing? well...here's my picture 😉

@gyromiterob So, with 70 posts and plenty of votes for each of them, please let us know which way are you leaning. Personally, I can't pick between the two and own both - they are both great designs in their own ways and you can't go wrong with either of them.

A Japan Racing will set you back quite a bit more than the ST2. There are still plenty of ST2s available because flippers watches haven't washed out of the market which is capping the price. Where the price settles in the next 6-12 months, who knows. Finding a Japan Racing will be more difficult and you need to be careful that you buy a genuine one and not a mod. This means try to get a full set and make sure the serial number is in the correct range for the Japan Racing.

I'm late to the party, but Racing for me. Only the ST1, the Gemini IV, and the Mitsu/Apollo35th can hold a candle to it imho...

(I realize I said "only" for 3 of them 😁 this is silly)

The MarkII racing is absolutely killer though, I like it better in vintage form still as there is no date window to ruin the dial on the old one!

+1 Ultraman. But I have to say that the grey dial of the racing with its orange accents is beautiful.
