Thanks for the thoughtful reply. So if I understand correctly you would divide the P-Subs into only 2 generations with 2 variations of the latter. The second generation is therefore distinguished principally by the asymmetric case?
Dating by movement is a good idea. I did look into this when I was working out the two alternate variants of the 1st generation (leaving out your proposed third variant for the time being). I was able to assess movements in 11 of 19 examples if the straight lug, large lume plot version as follows: 4 x cal 215, 4 x cal. 215-2, 1xcal. 215-9, 2x cal. 1-69 and 1 x cal 69.
With that kind of variation, I think we'd need a larger sample before definitive conclusions.
