so at the end I bought some garbage 😀
I wouldn't go that far, it's all perspective. You bought it because you thought the engraving was nice, so I see nothing wrong if you got something unique that you enjoy at a price you are happy with. It also helped you learn something new, and confirmed your own suspicions you stated in the first post, so in several ways it was a successful buy. We have all bought watches we thought were something else, trust me. Some of our mistakes would make this seem like a holiday in comparison. You're fine. 👍

We wouldn't be a family if we didn't give out some tough love now and then.

Oh yea the guy feels much better now 😁
I applaud the substantial quotation effort, but me not caring for the watch doesn't mean he can't enjoy it. Those opinions can coexist.

Some older Omega pocket watches don’t have a signed movement - instead, the serial # is under the dial.

Just for fun, maybe this watch is actually special, but someone did something silly to it. Maybe that could be reversed with a good service and replacement of some parts. Or maybe just reread @OmegaP99 ’s comments again and call it a day

Edit: not making fun of you @OmegaP99 👍

I applaud the substantial quotation effor

It really didn't take all that much effort, nor does going a little easy on a newbie just getting their feet wet in the hobby. All the fancy word dancing to the newbie afterwards could have been avoided. Just saying.

I’m guessing that it’s a period ‘fake’ that’s been gussied up more recently.

From what I can see from the movement itself, it’s nothing special at all; some of it looks more recent than the rest of it, like the balance cock jewel setting. I’m certain that the hands are a modern set that don’t even look correct.

Even the engraving on the movement is poorly executed.

Now, this is only my ‘educated’ guess.

I own another period fake -

@janice&fred :

We've all done stuff like this early on, so none of us is above having had this experience at one time or another, particularly early on.

I, for one, have always appreciated honest feedback, even if the truth hurts or is embarrassing. (I still embarrass myself all the time here on OF!)

I don’t think anyone comes here for lullabies. We come here to be told the straight up truth.

I sometimes worry that you’re too circumspect in giving newbies feedback. (I don’t think they’re looking for a coach either.)

Nevertheless, I applaud you for how often you rise to the newbies’ questions!

And how often I find myself agreeing with you. 😉

Early on only? Speak for yourself. I have been in this game since the '80's and still end up buying a pig in a poke every once in a while. I mean the kind of buy where you shake your head in the car driving home 😁

I didn't take it that way at all, but thank you. Nor am I offended by anyone else with differing viewpoints (@janice&fred and I seem to agree far more than we don't), and very much appreciate the spectrum of opinions here.
