That is really weird I mean people gave some very plausible explanations but darn that’s odd. I guess on the plus side you didn’t tap it against something or have a minor impact with that crystal off. That might have been the end of that watch.

I try to be as careful as I can and really I’ve only given any watch an impact once or twice that made me concerned (left some marks nothing serious) but it’s easy to bang or catch something with a watch on in error. So yes a sad tale but one that could have had a more tragic ending. I generally hear good things about watches from Japan I think the most common complaint is a little over polishing.

It's best to wind the stem like 40-50 times and monitor the watch that way to assess whether it has an issue or not, there's also a paid app called Watch Tuner on iOS, and unpaid versions on Android, you place it on your earphone microphone, and if the beat error is too much, or if the watch is like -180s/d - you understand that it needs a service

but

Why not just return the watch using eBay's protection first, and Paypal's protection if it doesn't work, you should still be covered, act fast

Clearly the watch is a dud, don't waste more money? If you can get out of it

Return the " Dud " to Japan ? It's not the sellers fault. It arrived with a crystal and the buyer lost it. That can happen in every country, nothing to do with Japan. Hands touch ? That is maybe the simplest task to fix. Could even have happened during shipping. The idea to return that Omega all the way back to Japan because of these mini problems, is very strange to me. It's like buying a vintage Car and find out later in the first Rain, that the wiper does not really wipe . Do you return that Car ? Welcome to vintage watches !

It's like buying a vintage car that the seller represents as newly serviced, having it stall every 2-3 km, than the windshield releases into the road when you break ...

If it was just the stalling, I'd agree that there are various acceptable causes and happens in shipping too, but combine with the dropped crystal, and it's the above scenario

Thanks for checking, @michael e . I’m intrigued, btw—why so many crystals?

Yes, I had the impulse to blame the seller and try to get rid of the watch. But my position is weak, as watchyouwant notes. Plus I’m coming to realize that this is just what happens with vintage watches. I hope I’m not throwing good money after bad, but after reading everyone’s thoughts (many thanks) I’ve decided to get it serviced and have the crystal replaced. I still think it’s a really cool watch, and would love to bring it back to life!

I think it’s a strong position, coming from someone who buys vintage watches and sells a small portion as a hobby - selling on eBay is a nightmare, you have to underrepresent everything as a seller, buyers rule the world

Some youtube watch “repairsman” don’t even put in the tension ring when putting watches back, I suspect yours could be a similar situation

If you paid less than $200, I’d agree that your path is logical, but if you paid more than $400 - 100% push for excellence

Sharing the seller here and maybe the listing could also be useful - Japan has a strong Omega market, some sellers on eBay just resell watches, I wonder if you bought from them, or one of very few actually established sellers (closer for good watches, aonahappa for thrash watches)

Edit: Admittedly I'm not very educated on popping crystals, I'll research it when I have some free time, I'm just worried OP will spend $300 more after potentially spending so much on a watch, that's why the sales price matters
