I got a new Speedy Pro a few weeks ago and already want to buy an aftermarket 1039 imitation and put an aftermarket DON bezel on it. I realize that this would make my watch a frankenwatch but I’d keep the original bracelet and bezel. Would doing this make me a Newbie fool? No way I’m paying $2000 for a 1039 with endlinks right now.

If it already has authentic bracelet and bezel, why do you want to replace them with fakes? Presumably whatever is currently on the watch is a function of its history, which must be better than aftermarket replicas.

Just for fun. I like the look of the flat link bracelets and the DON bezel would just be a little wink to the history of the watch. If that’s a tremendously stupid idea, I wanted to be told. I’m new to this

I’d say don’t do it. I asked someone here to talk me out of a purchase not too long ago and they did. If you are just looking for reinforcement that an idea you have is wrong you got it. Then again it is your watch. How’s that for help

If you want to do something different and get vintage look at the same time put one of these decimeter bezels on. Omega sells them for around $300. At least it will be all Omega parts.

It's your watch, and you're free to modify it however you like. Just personally for me, your rationale for changing the bracelet makes a lot more sense than for changing the bezel.

Could have saved more and bought a aftermarket imitation watch.

    But you didn’t.

I just love the look of the flat link. Omega could charge $$$$ for it and people would buy. I kind of don’t like the idea of paying $425 for an aftermarket flat link. Would rather pay double for an authentic. What about a real 1039 with aftermarket endlinks? That’s about $1200. How would one get a respectable polish/cleaning on one of those?

Isn't the new 50th speedy bracelet a solid version of the 1039 flat link? Online in stock for 599euro, think I paid 700 for the one I ordered and haven't received yet. Sure beats a replica in my opinion. As for the bezel, if you want something different I recommend checking out what omega has to offer before putting on something that is off a replica.

A real 1039 is more expensive, but you wouldn't be throwing your money away. If you paid hundreds for an aftermarket bracelet and later decided to sell it, you would take a massive loss on it.

I'd wait for the Uncle Seiko flat bracelet, coming soon.

Thanks. I've actually been following that thread since it started and I like 30 others have all expressed that we'd love an uncle seiko flatlink. He did recently (in that thread) show off his latest design but not a flatlink. There's been a lot of talk about one coming soon so I was curious if he has any pic of it yet. I guess more specifically my initial questionis, are there any links to pictures of his flatlink design? I've search the web only to come up empty handed.
