I think $600 is a safe price to to top out at for the Seamaster 600. If you REALLY want it, no harm in spending a little more on an honest watch.

so you'd pay £100 plus £25 shiping plus watchmaker and still have a watch with a mismatched case and movement (what purists and collectors call a frankenwatch) and a completely smegged dial?

not my first choice....

The new old stock case is nice but you wouldn't need it with a decent watch. The dial is the one piece that can't be restored once its trashed. Refinished dials are a no no with collectors and kill the value.

Looks like a decent 135.011 to me. 👍

I contacted the seller asking for a photo of movement, he didnt have any he said. He also said he would be in Sweden (Stockholm) next week and could mail it then, when I asked if we could meet at a watchmaker who could open the watch he said he didnt have time.

Am I just paranoid now because this would be my first Omega?

Better safe than sorry. If the seller is willing to help assuage your doubts by giving you a week or so to have the watch opened and checked out (and post pics here for us to assess it) then go for it.

My biggest regret is buying my first Omega on a whim without knowing how to research it / not knowing what I really wanted.

Set up some saved searches on ebay (e.g. "Vintage Omega Seamaster", and filter by date, etc.) and watch what comes up for sale, what kind of condition they are in (learn to spot a refinished dial), and how much they sell for. Within a week you'll have a better idea of what's out there. Don't rush, these watches are coming up for sale constantly...

I was too much of a chicken to bid before any of you experts said something, things tend to go wrong when I think on my own 😀
