This watch sold on Goodwill.com for $5k. Why is it so valuable (besides the obvious answer that at least two people thought it was worth at least $4,990)?

It’s solid gold, I assume, but that only explains a few hundred dollars. I think it looks neat, but is it iconic? Is the movement special?

I’m just curious as to why this watch would sell for over twice what a similar Hamilton Odysse would?

These are quite uncommon in 18K and this example is in excellent condition.

It looks like Goodwill has another, but with a SS case back (rest of case appears to be gold). Is that also rare?

Most likely gold-filled/plated/capped if the back is SS.

The high price might have to do with the belief that the money is going to a good cause as well. 😀

Whenever we talk about Good Will it always make sense to remember that just because a watch sold for a certain price there doesn't mean that the buyer is going to pay at all because there is no forcing of paying or bad reviews like on eBay.

These days, there's nothing forcing buyers to pay on eBay either.
