Now you have a 24 month warranty. All good..

My understanding is that the warranty is extended for 2 years after a service if you pay for it, but if it's done under warranty you're still confined to the original warranty period, which is 4-years from the date of purchase.

As above. If it’s anything like cars that have a three year warranty in the UK, if you have an engine replaced under warranty after say, 35 months, you only get one month warranty on it. In other words, the warranty on everything only runs until the end of the original warranty end date irrespective of what has been replaced during the warranty period.

There are two of them actually. Common name for a part that provides this function.
