I’m at the stage of wondering why I currently don’t like the watch... I loved it when announced, and currently could care less. Is it the looks or the fact I couldn’t get one...

I had exactly the same reaction: Loved it initially -> missed the online sale -> hate it. Then one was offered to me at retail cost and I couldn't say no. I haven't worn it yet as I really can't decide if I love it or still hate it 😁

I got a slight variant on the message:

"There's an upside to waiting for your watch to arrive… how sweet it feels when it's finally yours!

Almost all of the #SpeedyTuesday watches have now been sent and the remaining watches will be on the wrists of their owners in January.

We can also tell you that 2018 is definitely going to be another Speedy year. You'll be among the first to know.
"

Which I'm taking as "We're going to tell you about it, but since you complained so much about the delivery process with the Speedy Tuesday, and won't back down about the price increases, we guess you probably don't want to buy a watch from us anyway". 😁

and won't back down about the price increases
Did they try to increase the price of the ST between ordering and delivery?

I got the same email. It looks like there's about 3,000 of us, all bunched up at the head of the queue.

No.

The particular bee I have in my bonnet is around the ongoing price increases of steel, 1861 equipped Speedmasters.

In 2015 the list was £2695... now we're at £4100... and the watch is the same... sure it comes with a big box and some tools, but not £1450 worth.

Would be nice if they stopped trying to be Rolex, and just got on with being Omega...

It's like being at DisneyLand... you're 3,000 from the front... now watch these animatronic racoons.

Haha that is a very good point. I would love to know how many of us are at the front of this queue. There could be trouble if this watch is a hit

If the list of “first option buyers” is based on the last ST list of buyers then there are hundreds of dealers in that list that bought the ST to flip. Which is going to make some people very very mad.

I personally have not been interested enough on OMEGA LE editions to fight for a place in a line for a watch that I would receive a year + from now.

At this point, with all these LE coming every year it’s going to be more exclusive to just buy a good honest watch from the store.

I got this:

"Dear M'Bob:

While we appreciate your verbosity when it come to our products, since you are a cheap bastard, we regret that we cannot offer you a spot for our exciting 2018 release. Should you, though, choose to alter your spending habits in short order, we will reconsider our position.

Sincerely,

Raynald's Janitor"

Wow. We are all jointly in front of a 2012 ST owners + 7000 ST waiting list queue? A 9000 abreast queue?

I think the real fight will be during 2019 with the Apollo 11 50th LE. I predict much wailing and gnashing of teeth, blood and intrigue, sharp elbows etc in 2019....it will make this year's ST thread look like kindergarten.

Something like this...

Maybe you are onto something, as steel prices are high now: 😁

Steel 2016-2018 | Data | Chart | Calendar | Forecast | News
Steel increased 32 Yuan/MT or 0.75% to 4,280 on Tuesday January 2 from 4,248 in the previous trading session. Historically, Steel reached an all time high of 4772 in December of 2017 and a record low of 1750 in February of 2016.

I think the devaluation of the pound might be a factor. I Don’t think US prices changed much.

This is from before Brexit... and 1861 moonwatch specific... apparently about bringing "price parity" across the range.

i.e. They built a load of expensive new stuff, and the moonwatch looked to cheap next to it.

Not sure if you meant the Speedy Tuesday in your comment about 1861 Moonwatches being now £4,100 but in fact the base Hesalite Moonwatch on the bracelet is still 'only' £3,560. Still a large increase in the past couple of years to be sure.

Sorry Dave, you're right. 👍

When I queried the ongoing price increases with Omega, and how it is so far above the level of inflation, I was simply told that "We feel it still offers good value against our competitors".

Which, if anything shows that the watch industry is getting high off it's own supply.

Yep it is beginning to feel like a death spiral, as the prices get ever higher there is less run of the mill stuff in the range priced sensibly to ride out the bad times. Sales are great right now at Omega but will only take one decent recession to kill half the Swiss watch industry if they carry on raising prices like they are and I include the likes of Patek and Rolex in that comment. When a Speedmaster, Sub or similar costs the same as a cheap car, the industry has a problem it is refusing to face.

The good news is that they will probably gage demand based on the responses to their emails and make a limited edition of....say......50.000 pieces!! 😝

You are likely right on the money, yet I can't help thinking maybe they know something we don't: like maybe the entire "luxury" watch segment is incrementally moving towards being within reach only to the deep-pocketed, and they intend to cater to that population.
