Hi,

Can anyone recommend me a place to sell watches in or near Manchester?

it's the first time I want to sell something of value and 2 days ago a person was interested in my ad on gum.tree

When he came to see the watch he tried to trick me with a bank transfer. After I gave him the details he immediately showed me a picture with the transfer made on my account but he said that it can take up to 2 days.

I tell him something is wrong and the next minute he pretends to call Barclays but the gentleman on the phone answers in a minute and directly on the subject. He tells me it's normal to take so long.

after seeing that it was not working, he started arguing with me in the car that he sent me the money and wanted it back. I told him to call the police and I give him the “money”.

Thank you!

I'd say the OP was lucky. Things could have gone a lot worse since that character knew the OP had a valuable watch on his person.

I know you wont get retail price but selling to a reputable dealer or an online service like watchfinder where your money is safe, the watches are insured in transit and the transaction shouldn't go wrong, even if it does I expect there would be an amicable resolution - there is a lot to say for this level of security and the cost in terms of lesser value (say 10% or so) is in my opinion worth it for such high value items.

Many may disagree, but I would rather not attract the wrong kind of buyer to my house where my children live.

Mark Worthington are in Wilmslow so it might be worth a drive out to them and see what they offer.

I will try Watchfinder in Leeds. I have a speedmaster moonwatch 2020 just 6 months old and see what they offer.
Thank you!

You dont need to go to Leeds - do it online - they will make you a preliminary offer online - if you accept the rough estimate then they will send a courier, the watch is then shipped to Maidstone where they inspect it and if it matches your description and is authentic they will confirm or update their offer with a final offer - you can choose to accept or decline at which point they will pay you or return the watch - all transit of the watch is paid for by them and insured - also they are owned by the Richmont group who also own Vacheron Constantin, A. Lange & Sohn, JLC, Cartier, Piaget etc etc...so they can be trusted (in my opinion) - I Px-ed a Rolex and other watches through them and bought a brand new VC through a VC Boutique in one transaction as it's the same overall company/group.

There is a family run store in Manchester city centre near the arndale centre and the football museum. I can't remember exactly but it was on a corner of a pedestrianised street and the outside was painted black. (I lived in Manchester only for 1 year so I am not very familiar with the city) I popped in there once and the people were very nice and helpful. Worth a try if you can find it. ( I know my location description is not very helpful but it's all I can remember)

A dealer is likely to offer you around 40% of what they believe they could sell it for. It is quite a heavy hit for you but if you are ok with that there are plenty of dealers to do business with.

James Kibble, he’s in London. But he’ll get you a great price for it and he’s the most trustworthy, straight up guy you’ll meet.
