...there should always be a sales tax added on top of the listed price, the rate being variable depending on which state they are in.
Yes, but only if buyer and seller are in the same state when title transfers. So here on OF, if I am a seller located in California and my buyer is in New York, then the transaction is not subject to sales tax, unless it is a face-to-face deal in California.

However, the New York buyer is subject to use tax upon his return to New York. If he paid sales tax in California on his face-to-face purchase, New York will allow a credit for tax already paid and he would only pay the difference, if any.

If the item was mailed, then full use tax is due in New York upon receipt by buyer, but as stated previously, that law is hard to enforce against non-registered individuals.

Which includes most of us.

Quite so. And it is up to the individual to account for any capital gains if they are selling as an individual, but that is considered separately from sales tax. Or at least that is how it works here.
Here too. Capital gains income tax and sales tax are two totally separate returns.

Again, a lot depends where you live. All US citizens and residents are subject to income and capital gains tax on worldwide income. A US expat still pays full income tax, but may get special deductions or credits for paying tax overseas.

States have their own income taxes on capital gains. My home state does not have a state income or capital gains tax.

Eh, it’s a living.

Here in Canada, we can trade like a rolex for a truck, no money involves and no sales tax either 😁

You mean that there are no titles for vehicles in Canada, either at the federal or provincial level?

I highly doubt that.

Yes, I transfered the ownership under my name etc...but because there was no money involved, no tax. Period..

That would work the same way here, but you have to provide a legal bill of sale both ways. If you called it a “gift”, then it was a fraudulent transfer.

My point is that this is changing, and that general pricing advice given on this forum might be stuck in the past a bit 😉

Just look at this one for example:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/264953939837

pricing achieved is prior to service and prior to inspecting the dial irl. Quite high, no?

I'll bring this back up, simply because I'm the guy who bought this: while this 1963 168.005 was/is in need of mild spa treatment (ultrasonic cleaning, buffed crystal), this is one of the best pie pans I've come across in a long while, and I honestly think getting entirely original, un-dealerized ones like this will be much harder, much sooner than most of us suspect. It is, in all ways, untouched: the caseback had clearly never been off, the movement's as bright as the day it was assembled, it happens to be running COSC, the CB facets on the dog-leg lugs are preposterously nice, the lume is complete and matching throughout, etc. It will soon be serviced, but, in my estimation, is a perfect example of the three Cs.

Sorry—meant to include pictures. And: the dial's without flaw. The marks are all on the Omega-signed crystal.

Should pair nicely with that just-about-perfect 2852 of yours.

Did someone add ridges to the decagonal crown? Probably a lot easier to use now..

I have a nice tritium 167.005 too (marks at 2 and 5 are on crystal):
