Pickleball anyone?

the club I was thinking of went under, and not on account of the tennis crowd.
Poor pickle, I'm glad it has lots of friends, but imo (as I told my own club) the mixed model just does not work. Golfers don't prefer golf because they are too unathletic for tennis; tennis players don't play tennis because they're too poor for golf. They each want to do their thing in pursuit of their different goals and experiences. Same for PB - it has to find its own niche, and it won't get many of its recruits from either of the above, or the general country-club crowd.

No thanks. I already suck at golf and feel no need to humiliate myself any further. Besides, this is WAY more fun:
You do need a large body of water and it helps if you’re not intimidated by drowning. 😁
I started playing pickleball a few years ago but don’t play very often…I struggle with the ridiculously small sweet spot on the racket…as well as how to keep score. I will say that some amazingly hot milfs show up to play…but I know what they’re doing…they’re using their hotness as a distraction so they can WIN!
On one hand, you have death by drowning; on the other, milfy distraction. Life is truly replete with difficult choices.

Most of the pickleballers at my club switched over from tennis.

Interesting - in my area the pickleballers are definitely not former tennis players. There's more cross over from pickleball to tennis than the other way around.

I find this to be true in my area also. We can tell former tennis players, as they already have a grasp of playing doubles and have great groundstrokes. We have a few racquet ball players and they play differently from tennis players.

@Mad Dog, they're paddles, not rackets. 👍

Pickleball is easier to play and takes less toll on the body. Maybe it's the mediocre tennis players who are making the switch? They have more fun and don't ache as much the next day?

Yeah, you can easily spot the folks who can from tennis. Their arm motion is much better.

My only racket/paddle background is ping pong. I'm totally f'ed.

And tennis players know the difference between a volley and rally. So many pickleball players, at the end of a long rally, will say "Great volley!" Course, I can't help myself and have to explain what a volley is. ::stirthepot::

You can have a great volley (and possibly many) during a rally. So they may be correct some of the time.

Hey, I am only watching this thread for the milfy goodness, photos or it didn't happen!

I play with my pickle and balls.
So long as you do so in the privacy of your home and not in public, I see no great harm in it!
Unless it actually involves pickling the balls and preserving them in a jar……that sounds rather unpleasant and would be quite disturbing for anyone who picks up the jar to look inside or even worse for those who might open it!

I recently transitioned back to tennis from pickleball. I never really liked the doubles game, which is not much physical effort and dinking is meh.

I play with a few former ping pong players who have some great shots, mainly spin shots, so the transition can be successful.

Is there an association that one can become a pickle ball instructor so one can F the milfs?

Pickleball courts seem to be popping up all over Vancouver, but not everyone is pleased about it.

Everyone says this, and even when I tried playing PB it was something I hated. I couldn't figure what physical dynamics or other game characteristics would be fatally altered if they just came up with a slightly less "hard" bat/ball combination. Surely many have said this, so there must be some reason here. Maybe folks with e.g engineering or biomechanics smarts could comment?

This article gives some information, but it's very generalized. They also rate paddles, but no real information is given about the process used, and how scientific it may or may not be (for example do they measure actual decibel levels, as none are given).

7 Quietest Pickleball Paddles That Won't Disturb Neighbors 2024 (canadapickleball.ca)

IMO it wouldn't be that difficult to come up with a standardized test to determine the noise a particular paddle makes with each type of ball.

Noise is certainly an issue...it's something that the sport of pickleball needs to address or they will end up having difficulties getting new facilities, or having existing ones shut down. Some news stories on the noise issue here in Canada:

Okotoks man is ready to take his fight against pickleball to court | CBC News

'Shrill' noise from Chilliwack pickleball courts forces neighbour to leave city for the summer | CBC News

Neighbours call for Halifax to deal with 'ruthless' pickleball noise | CBC News

Pickleball is one of Canada's fastest-growing sports. But the paddle and ball can make a racket | CBC News

The pickleball noise debate has landed in Ottawa. Here's the score | CBC News

Some quotes from those stories...

"It's gotten to the point that I can no longer go outside into my backyard," said Targett. "I can't open my windows in my house in the summer anymore. The noise is just ruthless."

"The tennis has never bothered me because it's kind of a dull, soft hit," said Tucker. "But with the pickleball it's kind of like being in a psychological torture chamber."

She said the noise that comes from the sport is unbearable, and has forced her husband, who often works from home, to relocate to India for the summer to get away from it.

"They're just breaking my family."
The noise, she said, is "constant" and "shrill."

"I can't even sit in my house with a closed window. The whole summer when there was a heat wave going on, we had to sit inside with a closed window ... because of the pickleball court."

"It has ruined our quality of life," Burns said. "You basically have to spend all your time inside with background noise on. Lay down for a nap, got to put a radio on."

"You can't go down for a nap," she said of the noise. "It's just invading. It goes right into our home."

"It can be quite annoying," Harvie said. "It's like a perpetual aluminum bat hitting a baseball," he said.

"It's about 10 times as loud as tennis," said Scott Shannon, whose house is on the street next to the park, adding some neighbours have resorted to wearing noise-cancelling headphones.

Thank you, very much appreciated!

He what?? 😲 🤬
Seriously, all it needs is a little rubber coating somewhere... Cheaper than airfares, let alone lawsuits. 😒
