I keep half an eye on Polaris and DSA sales (mainly cos I’ve got some DSA buts and if a case ever shows up and need to know how much to spend). I’m pretty sure around 4-5 years ago a Polaris was more than a DSA but that’s definitely reversed now.

And the Geophysic certainly ran away but it looked to be a beautiful example.
Absolutely a top notch example (the Geophysic). Interestingly Phillips sold this exact watch in Nov 2016 for 68k all in. Now about 50k all in. Maybe it’s another example of the vintage market becoming a bit more sane...

Plus premium and VAT...
In all honesty, given the rarity, I thought it would go quite a bit higher, but already a very strong result indeed!

Epic battle on the root beer...

Why did that sell so high, 2x normal value?

I would agree: not crazy all over (a few exceptions though), but quite solid.
As usual, small diameter and pocket watches did less well than larger and/or sports watches.
Was surprised by the "pass" on the 530 and, overall, the Daytona craze has come to a plateau and even leveled off a bit IMO.

Hmm, I don't know what CCC is. And I think I may have been referring to the wrong root beer. But lot 39 seems to be a nothing-special TT 16753 on a leather strap and it went for CHF 24k, which seems crazy to me.

I would love to know what I am missing.

Sometimes two people want something really bad and just want to make the other bidder(s) pay. Or maybe someone thought they were bidding on the wrong watch 😜.

Duh ... right, the 3 Cs. No, I don't think so. It's modestly polished with some specks on the dial, and really not usually even the most desirable reference. Missing the bracelet, no B&P.

I wouldn’t use prices achieved at Phillips auctions as a price guide tbh.
The DSA dial and bezel was much better looking in the metal than the photos. But let down by the case which had been badly polished.
Case just ruined the watch for me.
Btw what do mean by “you have DSA buts”?
Thanks

I wasn’t really using Phillips as a price guide, more an overall observation that the Polaris used to be the top-dog diver from JLC, but now it seems to be the DSA.

The “DSA buts” was a typo that should have read DSA bits. I’ve got a complete movement, dial and handset from an original DSA. It’s mission impossible but I’m looking for a complete case and bezel to build it up.

Why would someone bid $15,000 on a run of the mill GMT master that even has been serviced!?! 👎

Maybe that being able to say "I bought a watch at a Phillips auction" adds credentials in some circles?! Dunno!!

So what “floats your boat” guys... I’d happily take lots 135 and 136.
