It was in the presence of a very fit audience that we saw this documentary.

In the last few years we have been unable to listen to Phil during the Tour de France, except for the odd stage recaps on weekends. (On NBC).

Listening to Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen was always soothing and entertaining.

The documentary is not limited to cycling. Mr. & Mrs. Liggett spend time in South Africa and have a genuine love of animals.

It was incredible to see them encounter giraffes, hippos, lions and elephants on their way in and out of their residence.

An elephant often walks right up to the house and peeks into their bedroom!

The documentary spoke of the death of Paul Sherwen, the Lance Armstrong connection and included a lot about the adorable and super fit Mrs. Liggett. (She was an Olympian).

The most touching part is their ongoing efforts towards conserving (saving) rhinos. They truly care.

Lots of watches too, but I had no clue what brands, and my wife eventually told me to stop taking photos (we sat in the back row!)

That’s awesome. I’d love to see this.

Between 2002-2008, I managed the Expo for Vancouver’s annual international criterium, the Tour de Gastown. (L.A. won it in 1991, actually). In 2007, the same organizers brought both L.A. and Phil Liggett to a community race event as part of a cancer benefit. After the VIP breakfast speechifying (where, as usual, you-know-who railed against those horrible doubters who insisted he took PEDs), I went up to Phil who stood near the stage. I told him that, ‘next to me, of course, he’s the man my wife most enjoys waking up with for three weeks in July…’. He burst out laughing and said it’s the first time anyone’s ever said that to him.

RIP Paul Sherwen. I sure miss his colourful commentating.

Top guy, Phil. Expert commentator, very knowledgeable, great camaraderie with Paul Sherwen. Phil gave us a shout out at the opening stage of a race in London many moons ago; we were surprised he’d even seen us. Will have to keep an eye out for this...
