I was on "the list" for a steel Submariner after buying a gold Daytona (yes, I caved!) and since I was meeting a friend for dinner very close to my Rolex boutique, I swung in to say hello. Someone higher up on "the list" (hint: there's no list) had just decided not to purchase the Submariner he had been offered, so by a minor miracle I walked out of the store with this beauty on my wrist. Only a 3 month wait after purchasing the Daytona, so not bad by Rolex standards 😀. I owned a 14060M a few years ago, but it never really did it for me. The modern Submariner bracelet is just so darn good!

And all you had to do was buy a gold Daytona? If only everyone knew.

Very nice pick up. People will always bash Rolex but the truth is that when you want a watch that ticks more boxes than 95% of the competition Rolex will have a watch for you.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a few modern Rolex I really like. The 21470 Explorer, 39mm OP and particularly the 114060 no date Sub (even with the maxi case) which I'm trying to get hold of at the minute.
I just refuse to pay over retail or buy any watches I don't want to get it.

I guess what paid off was you buying that gold daytona and not persistence of luck 😜

For certain. Although I did have to stay on top of them about what I was still waiting for. GMT is next... I told them I'm not picky - whichever comes in first!

Here she is... I was able to get this right before the demand went nuts. Now they're not sure they'll get another one for years.

I love my Omegas, but it's hard to beat Rolex on overall quality. And certainly value retention!

The Sub no date was always what I wanted. I had a 14060M but it really fell short for me. I love the maxi dial, and while initially I was concerned about the maxi case, I absolutely love it now. I think the modern GMTs which have very similar case dimensions probably won me over.

Congrats! Both are gorgeous, so...there's a reason we have two wrists! 😉

My local Rolex AD emailed me Saturday that they had a Sub that wasn’t claimed if I wanted it, and I haven’t bought a Rolex from them. I guess some dealers don’t have “lists” that go by how much you spend etc

Congrats on the Sub, but that Gold Daytona is hard to find lately. You've struck gold on that one for sure.

They don't have a watch that ticks any of my boxes. But as we always say here, to each his or her own.

OP: congrats on the watch!
