How much is the breguet Gruen pocket watch?

I'll find out as soon as the watch guy gets back to me. Can you point out which Gruen that is, actually?

Good lord... I had no idea... Well now its a bit of an ethical quandary for me... Do I tell them what it is or get it as cheaply as I can...
This is purely my opinion, but they already made it clear these hold little value to them. In my experience precious metal scrappers prefer the easy deal of testing and weighing metals over trying to find homes for "antiques" so let them name their price and go with it. Also, yes, grab the Benrus, not for me, but somebody would love to have it I assure you.

I just talked to the guy. I told him the potential upside but also pointed out certain flaws. Something is going on with the crown (it won't push in), the crystal is scratched to hell, the case is not perfect (lots of scratches, etc.), and it needs to be serviced. I also told him I am not familiar enough with Benrus to know if there is some fine distinction between the models that affect value greatly. So, I offered $200. He said he would check with his partner so we will see.

I figured this was a better approach given that I am hoping they will loop me in on watches in the future. Show them I am up front, etc.

the gold one on the far left and thank you for checking when time permits as it’s no hurry. Looks a place where a treasure might soon emerge

If no one else wants it and you do not want it for yourself, I would be interested in the Benrus. I really like it.

A dealer would simply ask what they want for it/them. If that seems a fair price or low, pay it, if it seems high make a counter offer. Remember that their primary objective may not be to realise the best price for the watches but to turn their cash over quickly. If they are working on a certain margin they don’t care what the market value is, they care about turning their money over. That’s how these businesses work.

I am of the opinion that a dealer has the responsibility of knowing what he has and pricing it accordingly, not me.

The same opinion would not necessarily apply to your retired neighbor.

It’s been interesting selling off my model train collection I will never use. I’m about done selling everything, and every price I’ve asked has not been questioned. I suspect because most of it was never used had a part in it. A friend told me I was pricing too low, but I have made some people very happy and this stuff will get used, and that’s important to me too.

I ended up offering $650 for the entire lot (the Seamaster, Bulova, and Benrus discussed in this thread, a waltham wristwatch, and all the pocket watches). Would essentially break down to about $25 per pocket watch and a little more for the wristwatches. That struck me as a "fair" offer given the circumstances... We will see what they say!
