Other uses for a loupe...

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but lately I have found myself using my loupe to help me look at things other than watches. A couple of weeks ago, my finger was bothering me. Felt like I had a splinter, but didn't see one. Pulled out my loupe and sure enough, there was the tiniest of splinters. Then today, my daughter finds a little dead bug and wants to look at it. I pulled out my loupe so we could see it up close.

Curious to hear what others are looking at.

Numismatics. The loupe is indispensable for enjoying a coin's detail.

I use one of mine to measure Lagavulin.

But only when I'm serving up a wee dram for somebody else.

Seems like a situation where precision is critical.

Wish I'd had one handy a few months ago.
Something white that I had first thought was a speck of ash landed on my finger. It resembled a tiny snowflake, till it began to move.
It was an extremely tiny moth like creature. Its wings were feathery extensions of four legs. A third pair of legs drawn up against the body may be vestigial. It was walking on the tips of its wings.
A breath of wind dislodged it and it disappeared.
I doubt the little critter was even 2mm across.

Looked these up and found photos, of similar tiny critters. Very strange and probably very rare.

No time to look at anything else. 🙁

My loupe is far too busy!

Constantly, scouring every nook and cranny of my vintage, pre-moon, Omega Speedmaster Professional for any of the, possible, tiny imperfections, signs of moisture, changes in dial colour, polishing, faint Omega logos etched into glass, gaps in pusher tubes or between crown and case, flaky lume, bent hands, close or wide T's, short or long indices, steps in the dial, Dots over or next to 90, serrifs on 7's, accents over Tachymeter, scratches on the bezel, scratches on the crystal, or any other horrific, devaluing, changes (that nobody else on the planet, except for you chaps would give a toss about) that I didn't know existed until you chaps told me about them on this forum.😡

Thankyou Forum for 2 years of total, 'fakkin', Paranoia! 😟

A very useful item, I admit that I've even used one to find the wife's G spot, but sadly to no avail.

Nowadays I find myself reaching for the loupe frequently. Once I noticed this I decided it was time for a check up at the optician.

Next week's paper:

WIFE MURDERS HUSBAND WITH LOUPE
When arrested the grieving wife reportedly told police "I was only using the loupe because I needed it to find my husband's .... , but it accidentally slipped and I just thought I'd lost it. I truly didn't know he would die an agonising death over the next few days due to the loupe being lodged......"

Which loupe holder do people use? When I’m changing straps sweat makes the loupe fall from my eye. Are the holders from China any use or is there a better place to get one?

There are better options than a loupe for this task:

I use my loupe to keep other little-used items company in box on the bottom shelf in my home office.

That's for sure. I had to start wearing reading glasses not long ago. Need to try my loupe with my reading glasses next.

I got a pair of those binocular loupes on a wire glasses type frame recently. I call these my Mad Scientist glasses. A wide range of adjustments and built in LED lights.
Years ago a friend found a small glass vial with tiny magnifying lenses mounted on plastic extensions with suction cups to attach them to the lenses of a pair of glasses. These worked pretty good till I mislaid them.

The spring wire ones a fine. They're cheap and can be bent to suit you if needed.
