I actually thought the OP was using a bad English translation software! Looking back I see it’s in a text/web vernacular. I do find some of the contractions amusing like “dinky” for Hodinkee, but I do agree that to some of our friends for which English is a second or third language, this type of vernacular can be hard to understand and exclude them from a conversation.

I salute non native speakers for their ability to utilize another language to communicate. If you are a native speaker and choose to write like an internet troll, well ...Tis better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to type in gibberish and remove all doubt. (Apologies to the various writers this has been incorrectly attributed too) This I have beaten into my kids head and the GenX/Millenials that have worked for and with me. My sister, a VP at a consulting firm bemoans the lack of writing skills emerging these days.

"how is it that dinky sells out of 250 these likity split @ 23 hundo?

this should be only slightly more than the 8-1k street price watch like their 65...but 3x as much cost...gtfo

it looks like peeps are willing pay more as well. looking at the bay one sold for best offer that was listed for 34.
"

Run through a translator:

My dearest fellow OF members,

This morning I have pondered on the popularity of the Hodinkee Oris Diver 65 Limited edition - how is it possible that all 250 pieces were sold so fast, when the retail price of $2300 is so much more than the regular diver 65?

Investigating the secondary market, it appears that people are prepared to pay even more!

Why is this?

Yours truly,

Baffled and Incoherent.

I think we're alone now is now playing in my head.

That's been playing in mine ever since release, and I never even liked the damn song!

That was said in sarcasm of course, if the emoji didn’t give it away...

I think you are referring to Hodinkee selling these for $2.3k if I understand the hilarious translation...I enjoy them.

Yes, I don’t understand the phenomenon either- I don’t see how this is any different than the standard larger 65 series other than a color scheme. But it is Hodinkee, and they make their own brand of special.
I actually like the bronze bezel and black dial version much more. Hodinkee knows this makes money, so they make it.

Dog knows Omega would never play a game like this. Take a run-of-the-mill watch and add a graphic or two, and sell as a LE with a bit higher price. And then people who are able to buy them turn around and ask even more. Yep, thank Dog this will never happen.

I like the look, think the price is high, but hodinkee (like fratello) not being a watch manufacturer is left with marketing to their base ... speedy tuesday LEs command a significant premium as well.

Just to (dog forbid) inject some sanity and common sense to this topic.

The Oris Diver 65 40mm stainless steel on bracelet (01 733 7707 4354-07 8 20 18) has an MRSP of $2200.

Sure you can get discounts, but the MRSP is $2200.

The Hodinkee LE, which features a modified movement (they have removed the auto mechanism, and the date function to make it thinner), and a custom caseback to make the watch slimmer, comes with a leather Oris watch roll, and was limited to 250 pieces, was retailed at $2300 by Hodinkee.

This doesn't seem like the rip off of the century.

@pIoNeErOfThEnILe so you don't like the Oris LEs, you don't like the "fail boat" that is the '57 Trilogy series, you're sick of polished case attributes, etc...is there something you do like?

Hey Larry, GenX'rs are in their 40's-50's now, I know, I am one. Please don't paint us with the same brush as the millennials (who are actually into their 30's now if you can believe it!!) or the- whatever the 20-somethings are now.

lol..comparing the LE to the msrp of the original or like watch to say that it's not a rip off....that's some funny chit......sorry, street price for like new is 8-1k..and no debate is going to debunk that

here is an awesome piece. it's non dinky, but it's still $21 hundo and made for revolution in a LE.

i actually think it's nicer than the dinky.

if the price was reasonable it would be in my stable with a great looking honey dial like that.

have to pass at the price.

I realize that it must be quite a challenge for a race horse

to communicate with humans in any sort of meaningful and lucid way, especially after its recent demise, but it really would be a great help if you could stick to some semblance of an internationally recognized form of English.

Dinky? I understood this:-

Hundo? Is that Esperanto? Why would dogs need any Dinky toys and how would they go about sharing 250 toys amongst 23 dogs?

8-1K is like 65 but x3? -992 is like 21.67? What?

And it seems that the dogs have some competition from these guys

Who apparently paid 34 according to this guy

I have no F🤬g idea what you are talking about; which is a pity because the watch looks quite nice.

Is this your Captain Scarlet SPV? Brings back memories, I had one as a kid, heavily abused so scratched and dented, always losing the little orange plastic missiles... A mint version in a box would probably fetch the same $$$$ as a decent watch, even a Dinky Oris...
