Well, this thread is really just about the tariffs and other trade war stuff.

Not DOGE, and certainly it’s not about the war in Ukraine because Trump ended that on his first day in office, which was the same day he ended the Israel-Hamas war and lowered all the grocery prices.

Swatch group going up 4 to 6% on May 01. Hard to believe there won't be more hikes coming.

It's almost as if he is trying to collapse the economy. Meanwhile, no tariffs on Russia and the Russian ruble has incresed 28% vs the dollar in 2025.
Don`t forget North Korea. But: Russia and North Korea need a lot of Golf Courses . Built by Agent Orange.

Son of bitch Trump
That’s the only thing you wrote that makes any sense.

As I said above, it’s not about the policies (some of which actually make sense), it’s about the incompetence of the executive branch and their total focus on revenge, rather than advancing the interests of all the people, not just the 40-some percent that voted for him.

Demanding reciprocal 0 tariffs or balanced tariffs. That no one levy retaliatory tarrifs

FTFY. It is beyond any shadow of a doubt that the tariffs he is applying are not reciprocal to existing tariffs.

(Edit: in all most cases. We definitely know that the tariffs against the Penguins are reciprocal.)

[ Further edit: the editors of the editors would like to apologize on behalf of the editors. Everyone knows the tarrifs are 100% reciprocal ]

(( Further further edit: the editor's editors that edited the editors edit have been sacked. We apologize for any inconvenience these edited edit edits have caused ))

How about we look at end results of the policies. I know it has been two weeks and everything should be settled in the best interest of all people. Instant gratification, “Trumps” waiting for the policy to actually be in place a reasonable amount of time. Incompetence, mmmmm.
Incompetence? Damn if we could just get an analysis from the guy below.

No patience is the lot here at OF. Change is not always painless. Anyway……….

Strong agree from me. I recently enstated a policy that it is okay to have an open flame measuring 2 feet in diameter in the middle of my living room. My wife is appalled, but I definitely think we should give it some time to see how it works out. and I'm thinking- 2 or 3 weeks? No. Give it 6 months at LEAST.

Splendid analysis. Anyway, I’ll step aside and wait for more brilliant economic theory. No need to lock thread.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

It would seem that the way our government wants to encourage domestic production is to devalue our currency so much that it will eventually be cheaper to manufacture here than China.

There is no question that China has deliberately manipulated their own currency to gain an unfair trade advantage. This is not news, every administration since Nixon knew it.

But I don’t think the way to combat this is to make our people poorer via inflation so we can be the cheap labor.

And if things don’t go your way, be sure to Wag The Dog (look that up).

Strap in we might be here a while ::facepalm1::

Japan keeps asking the US what it wants in trade talks and can't get an answer
https://www.forexlive.com/news/japa...-trade-talks-and-cant-get-an-answer-20250421/

"Japanese negotiators are complaining that the problem with the trade negotiations with the White House, what's delaying concrete progress and a real deal, is that US keeps changing its ask in terms of exactly what it wants"

"The Japanese have just been in Washington. Their experience apparently was they went to talk to the American leadership on this matter, and the American leadership said 'what are you offering?' And the Japanese said 'well, what is it that you want?' And the Americans could not explain what they wanted.'"

Definitely not because of incompetence. We just need to have patience for the president figure out what he wants.

I read it again last week. Lots of similarities to now.

In high school, my friends and I used to debate: are we going to end up more like Brave New World or 1984? I'm currently thinking that the Handmaid's Tale is actually the winner.

Thank you, for a short time I thought I might have made the most boring contribution to this thread. 😀😜😉
