Original or not?

Hi,

I've just bought a watch on EBay. It's supposed to be vintage military omega.
My concern is that the dial and movement is original but the casing is not since I can't seem to find any other watch like that on the net.

Here are some photos.

Best regards
Rok

What makes you think it has a military connection?
The dial and hands have been repainted poorly

We all end up with something like this at some point. Return it if you can. Otherwise just take it as lesson. I love my noob tax watch. 250 euro im never seeing again.

Very bad fake. There’s a thread on here about these exact “railmaster” looking redials.

return ASAP

agreed - if you cannot return it, otherwise it's a valuable lesson on the WIS journey. Mine was a Tudor 9411 for 400 $ 15 years ago, which turned out to be a full on frankenwatch... Still have it though

I hope this doesn’t sour you on watches. By joining the site I’ve learned that I’m way too inexperienced to delve into the vintage world. So I’ve stuck to new(er) watches from reputable jewelers or inexpensive bizarre watches that make me smile. Who would make a fake Dugena “Digital” when the seller is from Germany, or fake a Memosail? Nobody, so the risk, and the price, made them easy, fun acquisitions.

Don’t make the same mistake twice, it’s happened to everyone whether they admit it or not. But, this is still a very enjoyable hobby, and the people here are great, smart, and experienced. Join the club of new guys who’ve learned a lesson and moved forward!

Unfortunately the dial is absolute junk along with the case.

The dial is the most valuable part of a watch. In this watch, it was poorly redone. I would ask the money back.

Tough break. If you want the genuine article, your best bet is the Private Watch Sales forum here. You may have to be patient, but what you want will come along eventually, and the price will be fair! One must always assess the seller as much as one assesses the sale.

Thanks for all your answers. I must say that all of them are quite insightful and this forum is one of the best I've been on for some time (mostly car and motorcycle forums until now).
Vintage watches might just prove to be a realy nice hobby.
I might just keep the watch as a reminder of not enough research and of my own stupidity.

Thanks again
Rok

No stupidity here, my friend. Just excitement.

much like rising trout to a perfectly cast fly

enjoy the reminder as you enjoy the watch

Oh yes I got scars all over meeself and some of them fairly recent. I figure it's just a minor annoyance due to my cowboy "shoot first ask questions later" way I play the game. I'm proud of the OP for having a set and taking a shot, and it will all work out as time goes by and with some learning along the way 👍
