Original dial and hands

Hi all
I have a question that confuses me and could use your help.
I saw an add for a 105012 with “ original dial and hands”
How do you know this unless you owned the watch since new? I can understand “period correct” dials and hands but don’t understand how anyone could claim the dial and hands are original since if they were replaced for example in 1975 they would look the same today as if they were original.

Anyone who thinks something is original on a 70-year old watch is delusional. You're right, they can't know. But they try anyways.

The closest I'll get is "appears to be original".

Everything is "original", "unpolished", and "excellent" these days. TBH, the vast majority of sellers can't even distinguish period-correct from tritium service hands. Dials tend to be more distinctive and carefully studied.

Actually they would not look the same since both hands and dial were different in 1965 to 1975 so while you have a point in general, your example is a little flawed. Many watches were serviced and received new parts decades ago and this is often is detectable to a collector who is motivated enough to do their homework.

I think "original" mean that even it was replaced in the past was replaced with the correct one..In our days if some hands are to be replaced and are replaced with the correct ones you will say that are original ones in several years..
