Oreo vs Khaki

Hey all,
Just came back from an Omega Boutique and saw watches that caught my eye. The omega planet ocean GMT Black and White dial or the cream/khaki colored Planet ocean. Based on looks , which would you choose?

PS I told my wife that I am getting this watch for 50 bucks. I am afraid that, when I die, she will try sell the watch for the same price I told her that it was purchased it for. Just sayin’😉

I would go for the Oreo, both look great but that high contrast is sharp. Which colour do you see yourself wearing more?

If you are able to convince your wife it is a $50 watch you are of a running a much higher skill set of subterfuge than I am capable of. I wish you the best success!

I vote for the Khaki because of its rarity (newest colorway & boutique exclusive), and the fact that it’s thinner than the black/white GMT. Easier to read too because there isn’t a GMT hand with the same finish as the rest of the handset

They’re both “a lot of look,” and probably not ones I’d jump on. But between the two, for me, it’s no contest: the khaki PO. The Oreo just feels off to me—the contrast on the bezel is too extreme.

That said, the first thing I’d want to do if I got the khaki PO would be to ditch that strap, which is just so wrong, in my opinion. If you play with the Omega site you can see how it would look on various other options. I bet it would actually be killer on a steel mesh or any number of dark brown straps. There are probably some good rubber options too, since it’s a dive watch. (Which raises another point for me as a strike against the Oreo—why would someone need a GMT with that much water resistance? Are you really tracking multiple time zones while you’re diving? I get that few actually use dive watches for diving, but just conceptually… it’s odd.)

Actually I bet an OB or AD could get you the bracelet that comes on some of the other 600m POs—the khaki would look pretty solid on that.

These are both pretty big watches, as I’m guessing you know—close to 44mm, I think.

With the PO, there’s a green bezel one with a gray dial that I really like the look of.

People complain about the size of the Oreo, but I have a 6.5" wrist and it's not a problem for me but then I kinda don't care either. Probably getting the UD this year soooo ... For the Khaki I'd probably be more tempted by IWC as the PO is a dive watch and khaki is more a field watch colorway for me.

It’s a well-worn topic, I know, but it bears reminding: wrist circumference isn’t the measurement that matters; neither, really is dial diameter. (I mentioned it above simply because it’s the info that’s available and can be an indication.) The important numbers are wrist width and lug to lug—both of them involve the span across your wrist. As long as the watch’s lug to lug span is a few mm less than the width of your wrist, the watch should look fine. (Unless it’s a crazy thick watch, in which case having a bulkier wrist might help.)

My wrist is something like 6.75” which isn’t massive, but it’s about 54mm across the span and relatively flat, which allows me to wear a 43mm watch that looks fairly proportional, because the lug to lug is around 52. For someone else with a 6.75” wrist that’s narrower/rounder, the same watch might look way too big.

Hey All,
Heading to the OB friday to finalize my decision. Everyone’s opinion has been helpful and I thank you for posting them. Stay tune. I will be sure to post pics as soon as I finalize my purchase. Thanks again.

Actually wouldn't mine the khaki on a black strap...or even milanese

Could be, but what allows me to wear a watch is, it's not that the wrist width must be large, it's that the confidence size must not be small.

…but doesn’t it take more confidence to wear a tiny watch than a huge one?

I guess it’s true either way: people should wear whatever makes them happy and wear it with confidence. If someone else thinks it looks stupid, who cares? Life is too short to worry about other people’s opinions when it comes to something as inconsequential as a wristwatch.

Also worth remembering: 99.999% of people you encounter will not even notice that you’re wearing a watch at all or give 2 $h!tz that you are wearing one if they do.

Congratulations on which ever one you got. It is a tough choice for sure. I’d probably go black and white. But the khaki is interesting in the way it looks as well as the companion watches to that one.

Well, that would imply I'm considering their opinion in my watch purchases, which I'm not, so the percentages aren't worth remembering for me, but maybe for others?

For example, I love Bamboo Boxer company's boxers and, similarly, I don't wonder what % of people know or notice. I'm not gonna lie though: I have been known to walk around hotel hallways in my boxers, and a few people probably did notice.

That looks nice, congrats! I would have chosen that one too, although the Oreo has its charm.
