Opinions wanted: double fold or single fold deployant

Looking to pick-up a deployant for a strap I purchased for my Speedy Pro and can't decide which to buy. I haven't used one on a strap ever so I'm looking for pros and cons for each type. I'm also assuming a deployant can be installed on any strap correct? It's a Hadley Roma cordura strap and I'm looking at their deployant also.

I don't know HR, but looks like they could be used on any strap. I have a few RHD deployants which I quite like. Similar in design to the HR ones.

Personally, I like the double fold. The angle is a little less pronounced than the single fold - at least with the RHD ones. Single fold one can dig in a little bit because of the sharper angle.

They're cheap enough you could probably try both and decide for yourself.

RHD was first on my list. He only has 18mm available in the double fold, he won't be carrying single fold 18mm any longer. I'll definitely purchase from him if I decide to go with double fold as his product looks superior.

I like 'em both.

Question for your question?

What system does Omega use for Speedy's with deployants?

Methinks they use single fold for these watches, yes?

I find the dual sided (aka butterfly) deployant clasps sit more evenly centered on the underside of your wrist.

...... and thank you for using the correct word.

Yes they do. I don't think Omega even offers a double fold deployant.

My iPad constantly auto corrects deployant to the "other" word. Damn auto correct!

Any opinions on which is more comfortable or lower profile? I've heard some complaints about how thick it is compared to a buckle.

That would be a bad assumption, at least with the Omega OEM types as these will only work with the specific strap design. There's a popular eBay seller that claims his leather straps work with Omega OEM deployants. The fit on the Omega one is perfect on my wrist and wears very comfortable!

I'd have to agree with you. I've seen an Omega deployant installed on a non-Omega strap and it worked but, the deployant was positioned very low towards 6 o'clock. Definitely not ideal. The H&R and the RHD don't seem to suffer from this issue though. I wonder if it has something to do with the double fold design.

The omega straps and clasps are different. The RHD ones at least will work with any standard buckle strap (that's the right size), except for Omega straps.

The thing I like about the RHD clasps is that I can order any strap and they're usually a lot cheaper than omega ones.

Maybe one day I'll try an Omega one, but for now, not necessary.

I used to wear this on the JLC single fold deployant buckle...

It was very uncomfortable most of the time. Because I have fairly small wrists, the buckle was so large it caused pain on the wrist often. Using a short strap helped to shift it so it wasn't as much of a bother, and even flipping the strap around on the watch helped a bit, so wearing it "not as intended" made it more comfortable for me...I am such a rebel...

Anyway, I ended up selling the watch because it didn't get much wrist time, and at least part of the reason for that was because it was uncomfortable. I have my GO on a double fold deployant, and although it is definitely thicker, it is far more comfortable, so my vote would almost always be for a double fold.

Cheers, Al

ymmv but for me, the single has been better. I never got along with the double. Could be my big hands did better with fewer moving parts on the single.

Update: I went with the RHD double fold deployant and couldn't be happier! Here's a few quick pics:

And a couple on the wrist:
