Hello everyone!

I'm looking to purchase a 1960s Omega, Seamaster or Constellation in solid gold to commemorate the birth of my son, and hopefully be an heirloom for him in the future!

Whilst I've been able to research desirable movements, and a bit about hallmarks etc, I'm not super clear on what to look for regarding "re-dials" or anything else like that.

I've found the following watch on Chrono24, which seems to tick all my boxes, could anyone advise if there's anything obvious I'm missing with it?

https://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/seamaster-14770-18k-gold--1961--id37112270.htm

When I've seen similar posts on here, people have mentioned parts movements, or bad re-dials etc

Anything I should be wary of? Is the price reasonable?

Many thanks for your help! I hope to be able to join with my own watch soon!

Welcome! Do you mind posting the pictures you want assessed? You will get more replies that way.

Here are the photos of the front and back, I have contacted the vendor to ask for a shot of the movement too.

Well, of course I may be wrong but I suspect that the dial is repainted and the minimal mention of the dial (the seller says it’s 'white') makes me suspicious.

Again, I think that the watch is overpriced and for that price I’d expect photos of the movement and details of a service history.

So, I’d say eye-candy and keep looking

Dial looks ok to me. I doubt you’ll get a movement photo.

If I recall correctly, some of these were in gold filled cases, so you should make sure you get a photo of the markings indicating that it is solid gold, because that’s where a lot of the value is

The back of the top and bottom lugs, on the left side, look pretty chewed up to me. There appears to be metal missing. Being worn for years on one those old flexo straps can cause that.

I wonder if the dial has been cleaned, removing the minute markers but retaining the text?

The case does appear to be a solid gold version as the back is slightly different to that of steel and gold fill

No ticks is a problem & chewed up lugs make it a no go.

The Swiss Made font looks a bit odd, you might want to cross-reference with similar watches.

I am also in the process of getting a vintage Seamaster and my advice would be to be patient and take your time. I have a soft deadline by which I need the watch, for personal reasons, but I'd be happy to miss it if it means I find a watch that won't give me any second thoughts years down the line.

It's because it's distorted by the crystal edge. But the lack of minute markers is not looking right.

I'd pass.

Thank you all for the feedback! I'll be passing on this one, and have been fortunate to find a watch that ticks all my boxes on these forums!
