Opinions on this 2852?

Hi OF

I came across this CK2852 with military provenance.
The case appears polished and used. The stars of the medallion aren't clearly visible anymore.
What do you think about this dial, it kind of seems suspicious to me, the case is so used and the dial looks nice at first glance. Possible re-dial?
What would be a fair price for something like that?

Thanks in advance & best regards
Brian

Not an expert on this model, but the dial looks good to my eye.

Strange dial. It looks original, but the dial layout is different from those I’ve seen - particularly the position of the edge of the pie pan relative to the minute marks. See mine:

I had the same reaction to the position of the minute markers.

Same here - and I'd want more pictures of the dial in different angles, too, to find out if there's discoloration or just reflections in the straight shot of it.

The more I look at the case, the less I like it. It looks like it was pretty beaten-up, then polished and beaten up again. Large parts of the structure look rough, on the bezel for example and I'd be afraid that'll be noticable on the wrist.

Also, is that a hole at the bottom right lug where it meets the case?

Hard to put a price tag on it. Box and papers add another 150$ or so, but overall I could only imagine getting it cheap-ish, so cheap that I'd come out on top even if I found a good replacement case (which would take patience). All that's under the assumption the dial is legit, of course. If it isn't, well, then what's left to like here.

Love 2852s with diamond hour markers, although have to agree with above views. Minute markers look off on your dial, @watchheaven44 … looks like the minute markers look to be positioned far away from the edge. Caseback also seems to be missing couple stars and what is it with that inscription lol. If indeed it has been redialed, price becomes rather difficult even if papers/serial # agree with the movement serial #

And the indices. It seems like the markers and indices are in roughly the right spot, but the edge of the pie pan is too far out.

Military Provenance? Ridiculous. Why on Earth would a dress watch be of military Provenance? It is a tax exempt private purchase. Nothing else.

On a side note, it's interesting that the engraving and the receipt have the same name, but the engraving says 1956 and the receipt says 1957. I'm not making any point here, it's just interesting to me. Perhaps someone bought it for their one-year old son with the same initials.

My $0.02 -
Hands are oxidized, but dial is crisp.
Printing on dial is heavier/thicker on OP watch than on Seakingseaquests' example, and minute tracks are off. But MOY looks good......

Should the mixed M's be concerning?
Nevermind, I see now this was common. Still learning.

Edit after refreshing my memory: slanted M "Chronometre" was much more common on dome dial 2852 (which is the version I have). Straight M was much more common on 12-facet pie pan dials like this one. There seem to be exceptions to this "rule".

Thank you so much for all the helpful feedback. I won't buy the watch for sure. Still interesting Dial somehow.

What’s the price? And can you get more photos of the dial?

Better pictures of the dial will be needed for a definitive answer.

Agree with Phil. See my example, normally the minute tracks should near the edge of the pie-pan.

I can add 2 more dial pictures. I declined the offer already. Asking price was USD 2.5k.

The second’s hand overhanging the minute track is quite jarring.

Yeah, no. A very, very good example might fetch that. For this one, that’s grossly overpriced.
