Well once you get it open up the back and write down the serial. Get yourself an extract if you like, otherwise enjoy your beautiful 76!!

Ok, I'm wrong... after re-reading the sales post, he does indeed have the serial # recorded - I misread it at first. He says the serial dates it to 76-77, but no way to be sure unless an extract is pulled.

Regardless, I'm going with @Foo2rama 's philosophy that if it says 76 on the caseback, that's good enough for me.

During the service he said that only gaskets were replaced and a pinion wheel was replaced. I'm assuming that's not an issue as far as value is concerned?

Getting very excited about this 馃憤

Yeah, there's really no way to know without the extract. I believe there has been evidence of 145.022-76 cases having movements from as early as 1971 and as late as 1978. Just enjoy it as a 76, it really is one of the nicest ones I've ever seen. Also, for the condition you're getting the price is very reasonable. As far as the service, the gaskets, crystal, pushers, and even the subdial hands are generally regarded as service items that can be replaced with no reduction in value.

I had one from January of 77. Ruined my day because I wanted a 76 movement, too.

What did he tell you are the first two digits of the serial number, 39?

Confirmed that the serial starts with 39
