    Hello to the Certina ethusiasts!

I am new to the Certina world but really like the DS. I have come across this one for sale for $600. On the picture with the caseback open it appears there may be some damage to the case near the crown? Otherwise the case appears to be in decent shape to my eye. Dial looks pretty good, lume plots intact at 3/6/9/12. Hands still have lume. The crown is signed but looks like a different shape than some others I have seen on the DS.

    Any input is appreciated!

    Ref: 346.825
    Serial: 5801112
    Movement: Certina 25-65
    Case: 36mm excluding crown

    Hi there.

I too saw this listing and my verdict is that the watch has been subjected to some dial cleaning and is too expensive for what it is. The Certina DS is a fantastic watch and I have a few of them, but $600 is top money for a standard version like this one; I would expect a GF bracelet in good condition or a more uncommon dial variant for that kind of money.

That is perfect guidance, thank you! I will continue my search.

I see some scuffs around 9 o’clock, is that what you’re referring to?

Yes and around the other indices as well. It is common for dirt/patina/aging to pool there and it doesn't always come off completely when cleaning the dial.

These dials tend to age to a golden hue, so when they are very bright it can either be a very, very well kept specimen or a cleaned dial. I have only owned one that was perfect:

    I agree!
Seems to be a lot of fixings on that watch anyway.
The correct reference would be 5601 112 and not 5801 112.
Also, the wrong movement holder is installed and the DS-ring seems to be replaced by silicon.
    Not a good watch...
