Hi all,

I would like to get your opinion on a Omega Geneve watch I'm planning to buy. The price is 430,00 EUR.

I would like to ask you the following:

- Is it a real Omega?
- Anything you're 'skeptical' about regarding the overall condition of the watch?
- Do you think the price is reasonable?

Thanks,
Kristian

A word of advice: you will typically receive more, and higher quality replies if you make at least some effort to analyze the watch yourself. Even if you have little experience with vintage watches, you could spend some time researching similar examples of the model online, and develop some opinions about the answers to your questions.

Normally I too would lecture a first timer about a post like this but since I have already made him move his post once I will try to be a bit more reasonable.

The pics aren't great, not good enough to judge a redial for instance, but that has no obvious red flags. Yes it looks genuine, Omegas from this era are not widely faked. In the mid 1970s Omega put less effort into decoration and flamboyance and the thousand series movements, while not excessively unreliable just aren't all that nice to look at vs what came before. Or after indeed.

If it is running well (ideally with some written proof of a recent service) then the price isn't excessive. If it needs a service then it is over priced, to the tune of €150-200 maybe since that is the minimum you will pay to put it right these days. The clasp is probably fake. It is hard to tell from those pics but that design is made in India and available on eBay for very little, note the logo is wonky. It is wrong for a 70s watch anyhow so added later even if legit, but its probably not.

Well...

The case back seal appears to be deteriorated, and the rotor appears to have evidence that moisture has entered the watch at some point.

So at the very least, I would expect that this watch will need to be serviced, and that will probably cost you about the same as you are paying for it. So that's something to keep in mind.
