Hello OF,

I am currently in the process of purchasing my first vintage Omega. I have found one for sale that I like, but I would greatly appreciate your input.

The seller is unsure of the exact reference, but believe it to be a 35 mm Geneve 2903 with a cal. 267 in 18ct gold. Can anyone confirm this? I have asked the seller for pictures of the movement.

Do you see any other problems with the condition/authenticity of this watch?

The seller has mentioned that the crown and buckle are original Omega, but not correct for this watch. The buckle (and strap) does not look authentic to me - is this correct? How hard is it to source a replacement crown?

And finally, what is a fair price range for this piece?

Looks like a replacement crown. The case has been polished. Without an image of the inside of the case back, it isn't possible to confirm the reference, or the 18k claim.

Hi Tony,

I just received photos of the movement and caseback, which I've now added to the post.

Thanks. So the reference (2904) and 18k are confirmed. The case should be 36mm.

The dial and indices appear to be correct, and in very good condition. Setting aside price, the replacement crown and polishing of the case would likely be the only off-putting issues for some collectors, including myself.

Thank you. The polishing does concern me a bit. How much does it affect the price? The seller is asking for $2,200. What do you make of the buckle and strap? To me the Omega logo looks a bit blurry, almost molten. And I’m concerned about the “Genuine Leather” text.

I would not pay that price given the two flaws that I identified. I would say that it is worth no more than ~$1500, though I would personally not buy it for that price, either.

The straps and buckle are trivial, but it is probably safe to say that the strap is not original, and that the buckle, even if it is a genuine Omega, is plated (i.e. not solid gold).

The strap and buckle are fake and add no value.

When I see a seller adding fake items such as this it makes me revisit every aspect of the watch as I assume it’s a seller trying to maximise saleability and profit for minimal outlay.
